This was published on April 9 2006. This letter should be seen in the context of a previous letter glorifying crucifixion and attempts to capture mountain tops of Tamil Nadu to put these plays of hatred.

Sir:

This is with reference to Passion Plays of Jesus Christ's crucifixion.

Thoughout the history of Christendom the passion plays have been
instrumental in inciting violence against Jews and that too in the
name of love of god. In India these plays are used as tools for
evangelism. Hence one needs to understand the real nature of passion
plays which were once Nazi tools. How much truth exists in the
narrative and theology of passion plays? There is no evidence for a
historical Jesus. This is the reason why Church as well as believing
Christians fabricate forgeries starting from 'relics' like 'Holy
umbilical chord of Jesus' to the latest in the notorious list -
bonebox of his brother James. (BBC 18 June, 2003) Further there exist
many legends surrounding the so-called crucifixion of Jesus. National
Geographic has discovered coptic manuscripts of a Gospel by Judas
1700 years old on April 6 2006. These manuscripts say that Judas was
the chosen disciple of Jesus. National Geographic comments : "Diverse
beliefs circulated during Christianity's early years. Many were
suppressed in the early centuries C.E. as the religion coalesced into
a more structured faith based on the New Testament Gospels."
Clearly Christianity today and its conceptions of Jesus like he is the
only saviour or only son of god, are results of what Bible scholar
Elaine Pagels calls "Politics of Monotheism". In the light of such
scholarships empty does look the passion of passion plays which peddle
monotheistic aggression as love of god.*

Yours truly,

S.Aravindan Neelakandan

* The line in red was edited out.

Theological Motivation of Varnasi Bomb blasts

This letter to the editor of The New Indian Express [Madurai edition] was published on 18 March 2006

Sir:

This is with reference to the Varnasi bomb blasts where it is held
that the blast was some sort of foreign conspiracy to divide Hindus
and Muslims.

But it should be remembered that the strong motive for not only
Varnasi bomb blast but also Delhi bomb blasts, is theological than mere
political. Thus he-who-should-not-be-cartooned (PBUH) tells in the
holy scripture in no uncertain terms of casting 'terror in the heart
of the disbelievers" and "smite above their necks and smite all their
finger-tips off them" ( Quran:Al-Anfal or Spoils of war: verse:12).
Perhaps Jehadhi terrorists have improved upon the technology from the
time of their prophet but theology behind the bomb blast rightly
originates in Quran. India's pseudo-secularists want to whitewash the
theological dimension of Islam's unrelenting war against Kaffirs
untill they pay Jizya in humiliation as required in Quran (9:29).
Unless truly secular and truly patriotic Indians challenge the evil
theology of forcing one's religion on other through terrorism and
violence, this evil shall continue unabated. Indians should realize
they donot have the luxury of asking for whom the bomb of Jehadhi
explodes. It explodes for every Kaffir, every idol-worshipper -in
short- for every Hindu -till the last Hindu child lives.

Yours truly,
S.Aravindan Neelakandan

The right place for the Left:

This was published in the Letter to the editor of the New Indian Express - Madurai edition, 6th March 2006

Sir:

This is with reference to left opposition to Bush visit and India's
stand on Iran.

Almost all Indian cities and towns with left presence have been
plastered with posters condemning George Bush for his 'aggression' on
Iraq. But that is exacty what happened. It was a Harvard Professor who made the allegation. In a glossy Marxist magazine Frontline, dated 13 Oct 2000 under the title Horseplay in Harappa Prof. Michael Witzel, an Indologist along with his non-Indologist colleague Steve farmer made a scathing attack on the decipherment questioning its methodology. However the most important and highlighted attraction of the article turned out to be its accusation of Dr.N.S.Rajaram that he fraudulently created a horse out of a common Harappan unicorn seal.

The seal in question is Harappan seal (Mackay 453) as it appeared in the book of Dr.N.S.Rajaram as shown here. The controversial seal fromThe Deciphered Indus Script. The viewers can see for themselves that the seal has the least resemblance to any horse. So actually the reader will be left to wonder what actually made Dr. Rajaram think that it was a horse. Now let us see the picture of the seal provided by Prof.Witzel (in Frontline) By producing an unclear line-drawing-like-image of the seal Dr. Rajaram has actually weakened his own case. Still the question remains why should he consider this seal as a horse? Now if one sees the actual quality photograph of the same seal (Mackay 453) as provided by Prof.Witzel in the Frontline magazine one can clearly understand why Dr. Rajaram thought this seal to depict a horse.

For the eyes of a neutral observer the diffrence between the Harappan unicorn seal and the Mackay 453 is striking even at the first glance. However Prof.Witzel and Steve Farmer have made the following statements.

That the seal is indeed an Unicorn seal so common in the Harappan culture.

If any Unicorn seal is broken in the appropriate place it can be made to look like a horse seal.

While one wonders why Dr.N.S.Rajaram had to weaken his own case for a horse intentionally (by providing a picture of a seal that looks more like a deer while a clear picture of the seal strengthens his case for the horse), the charge by Witzel that N.S.Rajaram hoaxed a Unicorn seal into a horse etc. is untestable, we can at least verify the above statements. So the whole question boils down to 'Can any unicorn seal when broken in the appropriate place be made to look like a horse or at least like the seal Mackay 453 ?'

As one can see the seal is broken starting from the right hand side corner of the fourth sign from the left (of the reverse impression) of the seal Mackay 453. Part of the Mackay seal where the crack starts So here are two pictures of a common unicorn seal broken straight at right angles and broken in a zig-zag manner. The Unicorn seal taken for comparison Each one is separately compared with Mackay 453 as given by Prof. Witzel himself in his Frontline article. The Unicorn seal that is being compared with the seal Mackay 453, is the one that is available on the Net at Harappa.com.The seal has been fliped horizontally to make the comparison with the controversial seal better and easier.

The First Comparison:(see for the picture below) Here the Unicorn seal is broken vertically straight at the edge of the fourth sign from the left. It can be seen that all benefit of doubts has been to given to Prof. Witzel's thesis and the seal is broken at the fourth sign as nearer as possible. Still the genital area can be seen markedly different in the Unicorn seal from that of the seal (here after referred to as M-453).

The Second Comparison: Here the Unicorn seal is broken in a zig-zag manner and care has been to remove not justthe genital area but even as much as a natural crack could have removed the curve in the genital area. Still one can see the Unicorn seal markedly different from the seal M-453.

The Third Comparison: Here the Uniorn seal is broken at the third sign from the left. Both the seals have been so broken and still they do not look alike.

Note: In all the comparisons below- compared seals have the whole crack (along with the symbols of the impression made by) of M-453 over-imposed on them digitally.

Conclusion:
Any honest observer can see how they are clearly depictions of two different entities. So it is not very easy even to take a 'broken unicorn seal' and make it similar to a horse. In fact to do such a thing one need to remove using some graphics software thousands of pixels from the genital area. Even the poor representation of M-453 does not have such 'touchings' while a clear picture of this broken seal differs qualitatively from the 'unicorn' seal broken at different places quite conveniently and the genital area removed.

Further though Indologists living in a timewarp may want us to believe that finding horse bones and horse representations are a burden of proof resting solely on the shoulders of the scholars advocating Indigenous Vedic people, such a simplistic position is contested today. For example, Dr.Edwin F.Byrant specializing in early Indian history makes the following observations:

...Anyway, there is no evidence of a West to East trail of horse bones into the subcontinent in the period assigned to Aryan intrusions nor any innovations in the archaeological record whatsoever that can be correlated with an Aryan immigration. If the indigenous Aryan school is held accountable for the paucity of horse bones, their detractors must, likewise be held accountable for the complete absence of any archaeological indicator whatsoever of the Aryan presence."

Now the following conclusions can be drawn:

By presenting a scrambled, shabby print of a seal, Dr.N.S.Rajaram has weakened his own case.

By no stretch of imagination can this be called a hoax.

Even in a worst case scenario, it can only be said that Dr.N.S.Rajaram has misidentified a broken unicorn seal for a horse.

Prof.Witzel's picture only strengthens Dr.Rajaram's case.

The absence of abundance of horse icons/seals in the Indus/Saraswathy civilization can be attributed to many factors including perhaps religious practices.

But as in the AIT/AMT setting, the horses are required in abundance in the society of invading/migrating Aryans, Prof. Witzel should have shown positive archaeological evidence of a West-to-East trail of horses during the times attributed to Aryan Invasion (1500-1000 BCE).

I am neither an Indologist nor a Graphics expert. I am just an ordinary citizen of India, Tamizhian and a Hindu who happened to read Frontline and decided to check things for myself. I feel disillusioned that a man of Witzel's academic qualifications should stoop down to such levels. In conclusion i humbly want to remind Prof.Witzel that charging other scholars as hoaxers most probably because of political-ideological vested interests is not becoming of a 'Wales professor of Sanskrit' at Harvard university.

Past-Present and no Future?

Past

What you see here is the Nalanda University destroyed by the fanatic terrorists some 800 and odd years ago:

Present

What you see below is the Sanskrit Educational Centre destroyed by fanatic rioters day before yesterday (17-Oct-2005)in Mau UP- encouraged by a pseudo-secular Member of Parliament of Indian p-sec regime.

Here you can read about the list of Pandit personal libraries destroyed by Jehadhi fanatics.

Now what about tomorrow? The book shows the little known yet historically important effects the Beauty and Truth of Vedanta had on some of the most highly elevated minds of the West - often resulting in the very change of the way evolution of ideas and philosophy in the West. Swamiji starts from beyond the ages of classical Greek and through the evolution of Greek civilization, traces how Indic wisdom enriched Hellenic culture. Swamiji documents how Hindu thought reached Plato through Pythagoras. He convincingly quotes Prof.Urwick of London University, an authority on Plato, who says in his Message of Plato that anyone who has an understanding of Vedas and Upanishads, stands a better chance of understanding Plato’s philosophy than one with an ‘limiting western conceptions of philosophy’ (pg.116) Swamiji also shows how Platonic ideas resonate with Hindu concept of Rita . He quotes Dr. Frittz Berolzheimer who traces St.Augustine’s Pax to Roman ‘ratum’ to Greek ‘Physis’ and ‘Themis’ to Vedic ‘Rita’ and ‘Dharma’. (pg.121) Further, he shows how through Neo-Platonism Vedantic Light showered itself through Gnostic Christianity which though driven out into hiding by Synoptic Christianity, today has again surfaced forcefully thanks to such popular best-sellers like Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’. There is an interesting point to be noted here. In the 16th century a Florentine merchant named Filippo Sassetti (1540-1588) visited South India and he noted that Hindu scholars used an ancient language called Sanskrit and he also noted arelationship between his own mother tongue (Itlaian) and Sanskrit. He translated the medical treatise Raja-Nighantu.(pg.170)
This shows that the traditional physicians of India South or North had a working knowledge of Sanskrit. In fact this is further corroborated by the Tamil literature Periya puranam which mentions that Paramjothi (later Saint Thiruthondar) who was born in the family of traditional physicans learnt medicine and Sanskrit. Hence to say that Sanskrit was the language of an elite class belonging to a particular caste (Brahmins) is historically untrue. Now let us return to our main theme from this small diversion.

Next the revered Swamiji brings to light the little known but important role of the French in bringing the Vedo-Upanishadic wisdom to the West. Voltaire's love for India and Her wisdom is brought out by a long quote that says among other things
...I am convinced that everything has come down ti us from the banks of Ganges, astronomy, astrology, metempsychosis etc.
Further it was Voltaire who officially presented Yajur Veda to the Bibliotheque du Roi and he also opined in his forward to Essai sur les moeursthat the wisdom of India had come at the right time to him allowing him to correct the constricted view that was propagated in the West. (pg.180) Documenting how Vedanta and Indic wisdom inspired and enlightened France through the works of many Indologists and Theosophists the author arrives finally at Romain Rolland who assimilated into his life Vedantic universal humanism. Romain Rolland in his letter to Madame Calve dated April 4, 1930 said thus:

I hope that the good effect of that great thought may enter into the soul of the West, wounded but still hard and contracted.
(pg.229) It is surely astonishing for an Indian student (brought up on a daily academic diet of reductionist-contrived schools of Indian history that see Vedas as nothing more than primitive hymns addressed to nature by bands of nomads), to see a French philosopher of 20th century (Leon Delbos) exclaim
"There is no monument in Greece or Rome more precious than the Rig Veda"
(pg.233)

Now Swamiji moves on to German Indologists and showers unrestricted praises on Max Muller. In this section a good prima-facie case is made for the direct influence of Hindu wisdom on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant (pg.252-253). The author brings out how narrow and superficial Hegel's view of India was. Nevertheless Swamiji points out
Hegel's thought was deeply rooted in India's long development of dialectical philosophy
(pg.268) and Hegel himself acknowledged his indebtedness to Hindu philosophy. Hegel's contemporary Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) openly embraced as much as he could the snow-clad high peaks of Vedanta and said thus
In India our religions will never take root. The ancient wisdom of the human race will not be displaced by what happened in Galilee. On the contrary, Indian philosophy streams back to Europe, and will produce a fundamental change in our knowledge and thought.
(pg.273) Swamiji gives in the following pages a critical evaluation of Schopenhauer's understanding of Vedanta cautioning the reader that his concept of 'Will' is not identical with the concept of Vedanta. (pg.274) Then there is also a detailed study of how Indic thoughts stirred the thought processes of one of the greatest thinkers ever of West - Nietzsche.(pages 297-304). ,Here is a quote from Nietsche specialist Armand Quinot that is cited in the book Pages mystiques de Nietzsche
On more than one occassion Zarathustra, the poetry and the posthumous fragments call to mind the religious lyric poetry of India. Dionysos recollects having been teh Indian Bacchus. With his initiate says of him the devotees of Shiva gave frequently said of their God: is he not the emerald God, the God who from one cosmic day to another becomes, dies and is reborn, the God of the orgiastic, the Creator, the Guide, and the Destroyer, the God who dances and makes the worlds dance ceaselessly from their morning to their evening?
(pg.300) Swamiji clears some minsconception about Nietzsche. He was neither anti-Semitic nor sympathetic with the extremism of German nationalists(pg.3041)

From here the readers are shown how Blake and Willaim Wordsworth and Shelley were influenced directly or indirectly by Vedanta. R.M.Hewitt in his book Harmonious Jones affirms that Jone's Hymns to Narayana influenced Shelley's Hymn to Intellectual Beauty (pg.365). According to Quinet Shelley,Southey, Colerdige Byron and other poets of Lake School were said to be influenced by Indic thought to which they were introduced by Jones' Hymns to Surya Shelley's lines in Adonis also reveal that he assimilated into his realm reincarnation as in
Like a child fromthe womb, like a ghost from the tomb/ I arise and unbuild it again. (pg.367)

Then we are taken to the heart of American transcendental movement where glows inside the Vedantic Gnosis. In Emerson we find the assimilation of the ideas of not only Brahman but also Maya - the creative power of the ultimate Reality to weave a web of a transient reality. Says Emerson
In connection with the subject of illusions...the Hindus alone have treated this ...with the sufficient breadth in their legends of the successive Maias of Vishnu..
and in another article
..I find men victms of illusion in all parts oflife...Yogavindra the goddess of illusion is stronger than the Titans, stronger than Apollo(pg.435)
Swamiji then shows how the light of Vedanta shines in the dewdrops Leaves of Grass Then we are shown how schools of Western Psychology have been influenced by Vedantic and Buddhist wisdom.Swami Vivekananda's clarion call for Universal Humanism based on Vedanta as it thundered across the Atlantic and Hindu Maha Oceans in the America is also given a detailed account.

Then we move on to Russia and shown how India has always been a land of fascination and dreamt of by sages and artists alike. Tolstoy that towering literary giant of gentle and deep humanism in his last days took a great interest in Swami Vivekananda (pg.531-535)Another great savant of social sciences Pitrim A Sorokin too was a great admirer of Vedanta philosophy.(pg.543)

Thus Swamiji takes us through thousands of years of historical time and across the entire planet and shows us how Indian wisdom - the Vedantic truth has influenced nations and races in expanding psyche towards a cosmic Oneness. This is a book that shall grow with subsequent editions. That we are inheritors of such a living heritage that has beautified and sanctified the whole planet and its best minds, makes us feel proud and more importantly makes us ask the question 'am i really worthy of such ancestors like the Rishis of Upanishads?'. My immediate neighbourhood, people suffering there, slums that exist in my town and degraded village life that surrounds our towns, ill-kept temples where magnificent sculptures are degraded not by foreign invaders this time but by uncaring modern you and me, polluted temple tanks, and my own selfishness all say a resounding 'No You are not worthy of this heritage'. and then i hear a gentle voice from the book'...but YOU CAN if you make an effort.' May Mother Bharathi give us that inspiration to make ourselves worthy of our ancestors.

What we can do:

Let us read this book, buy and donate it to our public and school libraries.
Make small exhibits based on the book and invite students and youths to get inspired by it.

For more info, Excerpts from reviews can be seen Here

Sri Nataraja at CERN

This is the 2 metre height Siva installed at CERN - the European Center for Research in Particle Physics in Geneva. This was installed on June 18, 2004. Adjoining plaque has this to say:
A special plaque next to the Shiva statue at CERN explains the significance of the metaphor of Shiva's cosmic dance with several quotations from The Tao of Physics. Here is the text of the plaque:

Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, seeing beyond the unsurpassed rhythm, beauty, power and grace of the Nataraja, once wrote of it "It is the clearest image of the activity of God which any art or religion can boast of."

More recently, Fritjof Capra explained that "Modern physics has shown that the rhythm of creation and destruction is not only manifest in the turn of the seasons and in the birth and death of all living creatures, but is also the very essence of inorganic matter," and that "For the modern physicists, then, Shiva's dance is the dance of subatomic matter."

It is indeed as Capra concluded: "Hundreds of years ago, Indian artists created visual images of dancing Shivas in a beautiful series of bronzes. In our time, physicists have used the most advanced technology to portray the patterns of the cosmic dance. The metaphor of the cosmic dance thus unifies ancient mythology, religious art and modern physics."

The statue, of Shiva's cosmic dance of creation and destruction, was given to CERN by the Indian government to celebrate the research center's long association with India.

from: www.fritjofcapra.net

Hindu family/families killed and how media reports?

This is New Zealand Herald Report:
Hindu family shot in Indian Kashmir
15.08.05
Islamist militants opened fire on a Hindu family in Indian Kashmir, killing five people and wounding nine others, police said. The attack came just before today's India Independence Day anniversary, when violence usually spikes in the Muslim-majority state. The shooting took place near Chargu, a remote village 65km east of Jammu. Five people were killed and nine others were wounded, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Satbir Gupta, adding that three of the injured were in serious conditions. He said the insurgents attacked the two families as they ate an evening meal together. Gupta said the killers were from one of about a dozen Pakistan-based groups that have been fighting security forces in India's portion of Kashmir for the Himalayan region's independence or its merger with Muslim Pakistan. He gave no evidence to back up that claim. More than 66,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the conflict since it began in 1989.
[The Al Jazeera report is available at: http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/20495765-6EC7-4BF0-A22B-951C00472020.htm]

This is from Voice of America
Suspected Islamic Militants Kill Villagers in Indian Kashmir
By Anjana Pasricha
In Indian Kashmir, suspected Islamic militants have killed at least five people and wounded nine others, including four children. This latest incident comes as India claims overall violence in the insurgency-wracked region is declining. Police in Indian Kashmir say Islamic guerrillas attacked two Hindu families with guns and grenades, as they were sharing an evening meal in a remote village about 75 kilometers northeast of the winter capital, Jammu. Jammu is a Hindu majority region in the Muslim majority province of Kashmir. The targeted families were members of village defense committees. These committees consist of groups of villagers, armed and trained by security forces to defend against militant attacks. Defense committee members have often been targeted by Islamic rebels, who have been fighting since 1989 to end Indian rule in Kashmir. Officials say attacks in Kashmir have increased in recent weeks, but Home Minister Shivraj Patil told parliament Friday that, in the past year, overall violence has declined in the restive region, where an estimated 40,000 people have been killed since the insurgency flared. "During the current year till July end, the number of violent incidents has come down by 24.5 percent, compared to the corresponding period last year," said Shivraj Patil. "Similarly, the killings of civilians have declined by 28.5 percent since up to July. And it has happened because of fencing of the border, because of the vigilance of the forces, because of the policies of the government." Political analysts also attribute the fall in violence to a peace process that began last year between India and Pakistan. The latest incident took place two days ahead of India's Independence Day. Rebel groups, including those in Kashmir, often step up attacks at this time, and tens-of-thousands of security personnel have been deployed throughout the country to prevent violence.
[This Voice of America report is at http://www.voanews.com/english/2005-08-13-voa3.cfm]

This report is from BBC
Gunmen attack village in Kashmir

Islamist militants have killed five Hindus and injured nine more in an attack on a remote mountain village in India's section of Kashmir, police say. They struck as Hindu family members ate their evening meal together, a police official said. Three of the injured are in a serious condition. Guns and grenades were used in the overnight raid at Sajroo, 160km (100 miles) north of the city of Jammu. Kashmir has seen a recent spurt of violence despite peace talks. The division of the territory is a longstanding bone of contention between India and Pakistan. Correspondents say violence in Indian Kashmir tends to rise before Independence Day, which Delhi celebrates on Monday, a day after Islamabad. Deputy Inspector General of Police Satbir Gupta said two families were attacked in the raid. He was quoted by the Associated Press news agency as blaming the attack on Pakistan-based militant groups. An unnamed police officer told Reuters some of those attacked were members of a village defence committee.
BBC report is available at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4147930.stm

This report is from Pakistan Times
Five Killed by fresh violence in India held-Kashmir
Pakistan Times Kashmir Desk
JAMMU (IHK): At least five people were killed and nine injured in an attack by activists on a village in India held-Kashmir on Saturday.Indian police said that the attack took place late on Friday at Shajroo village in Udhampur district, 120 kilometres (75 miles) northeast of occupied Jammu. "The gun battle continued until early this [Saturday] morning. Five village defence committee members have been killed and another nine injured," he said, adding that the wounded included four children aged between two and 14.●

This report is from The Hindu
Seven civilians killed in J&K
Staff Reporter
JAMMU: Seven civilians have been killed in the past 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir in a sudden upsurge in violence by militants. These areas had been targeted even in the past before the Independence Day.
The militants targeted far-flung areas taking advantage of the gaps in the counter-terrorism grid due to the terrain. They attacked two houses of Village Defence Committee (VDC) members, killing five persons and injuring nine, including three children in Udhampur district. The injured have been airlifted and admitted to the Medical College hospital. One of the injured, Jammu Naseeb Singh, told The Hindu that this was the second time that Shajru village in Udhampur district had been attacked before the Independence Day celebrations. They had been apprehensive about an attack even this time. "We fought till the end with arms and ammunition but we did not have enough ammunition to hit back," he added. Two civilians were killed while a VDC member was kidnapped in Kulhand village in Doda district. Mohd Ashraf Hajam, 32, and Parvez Ahmed, 16, were dragged out of their houses and killed. The kidnapped villager, Abdul Majeed, a resident of Gandoh tehsil, was taken to a near by forest area. His tongue was chopped off before he was released.
[The Hindu report is available at: http://www.hindu.com/2005/08/15/stories/2005081507251200.htm]

A brief analysis:
Now that we have different reports let us just see how these reports read the massacre of family members. While VOA, BBC, New Zealand news agency and even al Jazeera report the religious identity of the attacked family members, The Hindu and Pakistan Times are silent about it. The Hindu reports three children while the other reports speak of four children. The four children according to Pakistan Times are aged between two and fourteen. Perhaps to The Hindu the fourteen year old may not be a 'child' though when Indian army accidentally killed two Muslim teenagers and apologised for it The Hindu raged against the artmy in its editorial for killing 'children'. But here we do have a case of intentional firing at children aged between 2 and 14 and we find The Hindu silent and what is more The Hindu makes the report include the killing of Mohd Ashraf Hajam, 32, and Parvez Ahmed 16 (revealing their religious identities through names) who were dragged out of their houses and killed unlike the blanket massacre of families by Islamic Jehadhis when it comes to Kaffir Hindus. This blogger in fact respects Muslims who have joined hands with VDCs and has even written an article to honor them in the webzine Thinnai.com. But this partial revealing of religious identities by a magazine that calls itself 'national' and shamelessly uses the word Hindu is nothing but a betrayal of trust of its readers. Thus we find even in reporting the intentional massacre of Hindu families The Hindu makes a gloss-over attempt in the most unethical way. If this is the kind of journalism the Marxist media baron peddles at his so-called Asian college of Journalism, one wonders in which way the institute is better than Paki madrassas where impressionable teenagers are brain-washed by Mullahs? So dear reader, dissuade your near and dear ones from joining this Marxist madrassa where your ward or yourself may be brain-washed by Marxist Mullahs in such a degraded manner you can not even report objectively massacre of a Hindu family. Time Hindus take action to shut down the Mao dinosaur of Mount Road called The Hindu.

Respected H.V.Sheshadriji has left us

Respected H.V.Sheshadri who became immortal on 14th August 2005 is a great patriot and a great intellect. His book 'The Tragic story of partition' is a historical classic for lay person as well as research students. Through unbiased study and objective analysis of countless original documents he showed the present generations how even leaders admired as 'great souls' by a spiritually superior civilization, fell defeated in the face of the cold logic of a politician who vivisected India through the mediveal theology intoxicated dark forces. He also documented how compromising principles can lead to defeat and human tragedies like the partition massacres. He pointed out ho the then political high command of Congress led down nationalist members of minority community and pampered the aggressive elements demanding partition. For every student of political science his book is a must-read for it demonstrates that when food is compromised with poison only death wins. He also documented how Maoist-pan-Islamic and Missionary maffia killed Hindu social workers in unprovoked circumstances. Given the selective reporting of silence in the face of massacre against Hindus by the pseudo-secular press, but for the work of Sheshadriji, these sacrifices would have gone un-noticed and forgotten. He also compiled the services rendered by RSS in various spheres of national life with no discrimination of caste, creed or language. Now that he is liberated from his mortal frame his inspiration shall continue to guide patriotic Indians to make Bharatha Dharma the world Guru once again.

Pakistan and Anti-Semitism

While researching for his book ‘Who killed Daniel Pearl?’ Bernard-Henri Levy gets ‘stunned by the virulent anti-Semitism which Pakistanis make no effort to conceal’ (‘Riveting Tale’, The Week, July 10). He wouldn’t have been had he known some of the little known dimensions of the forefathers of Pakistan and their not well-known anti-Semitic links – though it should be said to their credit that they never made any efforts to hide them.

Akhtar Hameed Khan is a celebrated social thinker of erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) who had won international acclaim for the work he did for the success of Comila Development Programme in the former East Pakistan as well as Orangi Pilot Project in Karachi. In a book of collected articles titled ‘Mushahidat-o-Ta'asurat’ published by City Press, Karachi in 2002, Khan reveals that Mohammad Iqbal as well as Allama Mashraqi were both influenced by ideas of ‘Superman’ attributed to Nietzsche ,which in the same deviant form, were also admired by Hitler. In fact, according to Khan, Allama was an admirer of Hitler too. However far from fancy ideological fascinations another powerful and also a practical connection, existed between anti-Semitism and Pakistan movement, through the Palestine issue. Mohammad Iqbal was the intellectual founder of Pakistani movement, guiding it through each crucial movement in those turbulent periods spanning the late 1930s to 1947. In a letter marked ‘Private and Confidential’ dated 7th October, 1937 Iqbal exhorted Jinnah thus:

“The Palestine question is very much agitating the minds of the Muslims. We have a very fine opportunity for mass contact for the purposes of the League. I have no doubt that the League will pass a strong resolution on this question and also by holding a private conference of the leaders decide on some sort of a positive action in which masses may share in large numbers.”

This kind of mass movement was built with infuriating speeches wherein parallels were drawn between Hindus and Jews in undivided India and Palestine respectively. Such a parallel was drawn by none other than Iqbal himself in his letters to Jinnah (for example in his letter dated 28 May 1937). Ultimately this ‘positive mass action’ resulted in creating successful ‘civil war’ scenarios as during the Direct-action day pogroms witnessed in ‘Great Calcutta Killing’ and Noahkali. This ensured that the battle-wary Congress leaders succumb to partition. That Ms. Muriel Lester, in whose house Gandhi stayed during his visit to England, and who was at ground-zero of Noahkali holocaust at Gandhi’s request, described the Pakistani movement there as ‘well planned quite a Hitlerian network of folks’, was not accidental. Dr.Ambedkar also discovered Nazi nature in Jinnah's voice. He said
The Muslims are now speaking the language of Hitler and claiming a place in the sun as Hitler has been doing for Germany. For their demand for 50 per cent. is nothing but a counterpart of the German claims for Deutschland Uber Alles and Lebenuraum for Tthemselves, irrespective of what happens to other minorities.
[CHAPTER XI COMMUNAL AGGRESSION, Thoughts on Pakistan]

Meanwhile in distant Palestine, the Jews escaping European anti-Semitism were getting harassed by Islamic fundamentalists of whom the most prominent was Mohammed Amin al-Husseini, appointed as the Mufti of Jerusalem by British in 1921. Yet by late 1930s and early 1940s the Mufti had drifted towards Nazism attracted by its anti-Semitic nature which he too shared. He repaired the al-Aqsa mosque in Palestine which hitherto was in ruins with funds from India and during this time the Muslim League under Jinnah and the anti-Semitic Mufti had established good rapport and understanding. Mufti was dismissed by British authorities in the year 1936 for his participation in anti-Jewish riots." Soon he sent Hitler 15 drafts of declarations and demanded that axis powers help settle ‘the problem of the Jewish elements’ in ‘the same way’ Germany was settling the problem. Later Mufti flew to Germany met Hitler in person and helped Nazis by recruiting 20,000 Muslim volunteers for the SS.

It is interesting that when Jinnah came to Cairo for an international Islamic conference he made it a point to meet and hold intimate discussions with Mufti. Later as World War II came to an end and the evils of the Third Reich became known and humanity was shamed by its own barbarism towards fellow humans, Mufti’s role in helping some of the gruesome mass murders of Jews in Europe started coming to light. In 1945 Yugoslavia sought to indict the Mufti as a war criminal for his role in the mass murders of Jews in Croatia and Hungary. He escaped French detention in 1946. However in the ruling circles of Pakistan, Mufti remained a hero. For example, in 1951 he presided over an International religious conference in Pakistan which was attended by none other than the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan who delivered a lecture piously standing before al-Husseini seated in a presidential throne.

Such then is the polity of Pakistan, which starting from the day of its founding fathers, portrays Nazi sympathizers and collaborators of holocaust as heroes of a religious cause. Hidden subliminally in all these is a sub-text which equates Jews and Hindus as marked enemies of the true believers. The niceties of Trojan horse speech writers not withstanding, the equations have not always been so subtle. Here is a recent crude one. In response to the killing of Hamas terrorist Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in Israel, a spokesman for Lashkar-e-Taiba, one of the most prominent Pakistan-based terror groups, was quoted in the newspaper ‘Greater Kashmir’ saying, “We will take revenge in India, as Yahud (Jews) and Hindus are two sides of the same coin.”
Had Levy known all these would he have been stunned?

-S. However what is the truth? Let us look at some of the less publicised statements of riot-victims before Nanavathi commission.
[PTI report: Friday, September 19 2003 18:03 Hrs (IST)]
A majority community victim on September 19 2003, stated before the two-man riot probe panel that his son was whisked away by a mob of armed Muslims during communal riots last year and he believes that he has been killed by the mob. Deposing before Justice (Ret) G T Nanavati and Justice (Ret) K G Shah, the victim, Dahyalal Raval, resident of Vatva area, said that on March 1 his son Mehul was whisked away by a Muslim mob near Burhani society and the mob might have killed him.Another riot witness Dashrath Patel told the Commission that the Muslim mob had attacked his society, torched and damaged nearly 26 houses on February 28 last year and also resorted to firing from the top a masjid, wherein two persons - Satish and Amit Patel - were killed.Patel added that Mehul was forcibly taken away by the mob and could not have escaped.Another victim Kishan Thakkar stated that a mob of Muslims had spread terror and fear among Hindus by openly brandishing pistols and other weapons. The witnesses, mostly from majority community, stated that Muslims from the nearby areas in Vatva had resorted to heavy violence and slogans like "kafiron ko kat dalo" were heard from the masjid in the area.

Now let us see what Muslim victims themselves have to say about the role of Gujarat police:

PTI Report Tuesday, September 23 2003 17:09 Hrs (IST)
Many minority community witnesses on September 23 told the two-member riot panel that timely arrival of police in Ramol area on the outskirt of the city prevented a huge armed mob of Hindus from attacking Muslim residents on February 28 2002 during the post-Godhra communal riots. Deposing before the riot inquiry panel, comprising Justice (retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (retd) K G Shah, Dr Ismail Mansuri, a resident of Islamabad society, said that huge mob from nearby Hindu dominated society tried to attack their locality having 15,000 people, but police arrived on time and prevented a massacre. However, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) refused to help them inspite of strong request, Dr Mansuri added. Another witness Abdullah Miya Saiyed told the commission that on February 28 last year a huge armed mob comprising Bajrang Dal activists and other people wearing saffron head bands were coming to attack their locality but police came on time, opened fired and drove the mob away.

Clearly what happened subsequent to Godhra carnage was no pogrom much less a genocide or holocaust. What happened was a Hindu-Muslim riot with official state machinery putting its best effort to crush the riots. This is further proved by the riot statistics released by the UPA Government's Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sriprakash Jaiswal. The statistics states that 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus were killed in Gujarat riots of 2002. (One can compare these riots in which so far 10 persons have been convicted with 1984 killing of Sikhs which officially stand at 2700 and in which top Cong-I politicians have been involved and today they and their lawyer have been made Members of Indian Parliament)However if one sees the propaganda made by UPA itself during the general elections as well as by many pro-Taliban NGOs in the riots they claimed that only Muslims were killed and that too in thousands. Also note that the Godhra incident happened on Feb-27 and on Feb-28 itself fire arms started firing frm inside the Masjids while most pictures and videos of Hindu rioters show them carrying 'arms' such as stick and swords not firearms. Clearly one set of rioters were enraged mobs while another set of rioters were well prepared. During a riot many police forces move to specific areas on calls and it happens they donot halt on the way to requests. So it sometimes happen that a request on the way is ignored. This was played hugely by NGOs and Marxist media barons (like Roy and Ram) to great effect to damn Gujarat government as genocidal. However as the above statement by Muslims themselves show Modi's police not only rescued Muslims in large numbers but also fired at Hindus to save Muslims. Here is a picture that was flashed again and again by the pseudo-secular media as the face of Gujarat riots- a Muslim with folded hands. This picture suggests as if this Muslim (whose name shall not be mentioned as his personal life has been turned traumatic not by riots but by this media light) is begging for his life from the Hindu rioters. In fact, not only Indian Marist media barons who used this to convey the national psyche the helpless nature of Muslim victim but the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Toiba also joined the pro-Taliban Marxist media barons of India and featured this picture in its website with the words "Don't you think he needs an AK-47". The simple truth is that this man is not begging for his life but thanking emotionally security forces of India for saving his life and property. In fact even while airing the riots carefully the scenes showing Muslim rioting were left out or crews were prevented from taking any videos of Muslims rioting. For example, on February 28, Muslim miscreants in Behrampura burnt an ANI camera and car and confined the crew in a State Transport bus for over four hours. An office of Gujarat Today in Ahmedabad was attacked and damaged. Clearly a pattern is emerging. A strong emotional image was created by the synergy of many forces. Intentionally or unintentionally the media barons of India had collaborated with Jehadi elements to expand the theatre of Jehad to Gujarat.
KPS Gill the super cop who contained terrorism in Punjab and who is also the President,of the Institute for Conflict Management, points out in the article titled "New Theatre Of Islamist Terror " in the Outlook dated Sep.30.2002:

...there has been continuous evidence of recurrent efforts by Pakistan backed Islamist extremist groupings to engineer terrorist incidents in Gujarat in the months since the riots in this State. Thus,

On August 28, 2002 , Farhan Ahmad of Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) and Shahid Ahmed Bakshi of Ahmedabad were arrested from the Nizamuddin area in Delhi with four kilogrammes of RDX, a pistol, two detonators and ammunition. Interrogation reports indicated that they were linked to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and were tasked to go to Gujarat and to assassinate Chief Minister Narendra Modi and some senior members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (World Council of Hindus, VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Ahmad and Bakshi had been recruited while they were working in Kuwait, by three Pakistani LeT members identified as Basharat, Faheem and Mujahid-ul-Islam.Farhan had undergone training in Muzaffarabad (Pakistan occupied Kashmir, PoK) as far back as in 1998, and was a specialist in illegal fund transfers from Kuwait to various recipients in India. He had returned to India in May 2002 to mobilize support in madrassas (seminaries) in Tanda, Rattanpura, Umrikalan and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, and to motivate these institutions to accept and retain Muslim youth orphaned during the Gujarat riots until they could be trained to join the jehad. In July 2002, Farhan had visited relief camps in Gujarat and identified at least 33 boys for possible recruitment. Bakshi, in turn, had received substantial funds to purchase a tanker for 'milk collection' in the Kutch-Bhuj areas of Gujarat, which was intended to be used for transporting arms and explosives clandestinely inducted from Pakistan, to urban centers in the State.

On August 4, 2002 , security forces arrested Mohammed Maqbool Joiya @ Bashir Joiya, a Pakistani terrorist of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) from Kotla, under Khavda police station limits, Kutch district, Gujarat. Maqbool, a native of Saiwal in Pakistani Punjab, had infiltrated into India via Jammu. He had trained with the JeM at camps at Kotli (PoK) and later at an Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) training camp at Sensa, and was 'launched' into J&K along with a group of eight terrorists. He initially operated in Rajouri in that State, and was involved in an encounter with Village Defence Committee (VDC) members in the district. He was surveying infiltration / exfiltration possibilities on the Kutch border in Gujarat in an effort to identify new routes and operational bases.

On May 10, 2002 , Delhi Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) K.K. Paul disclosed that five terrorists of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) [two of whom were killed in an encounter in Delhi on May 9] had plans to target VVIPs and industrial interests in Delhi and were operating under a changed name of Tehreek-bin-Zaid. He also indicated that the terrorists planned to rope in Muslim youth from Gujarat into militancy, as they apparently visualised the State as a 'fertile ground' for recruitment into terrorist organisations in view of the recent communal violence there.

In early May , intelligence agencies in J&K intercepted communications between the Lashkar-e-Toiba and their handlers in Pakistan. The LeT cadres were being instructed to send groups to execute acts of terrorism in Gujarat, and also to identify and mobilize potential recruits among the victims and survivors of the Gujarat riots.

These are only a handful of the recent intelligence breakthroughs that prevented acts of terrorism from taking place in Gujarat, and are part of a much larger plan that extends well beyond this State, and that predates the Gujarat riots by many years. Since 1998, for instance, Central intelligence and State police units charged with countering Pakistan-backed terrorism in India outside the State of Jammu & Kashmir, have identified and dismantled at least 162 terrorist and support modules [1998: 29; 1999: 30; 2000: 25; 2001: 59; 2002 (till September 25): 19] located virtually across the country. These figures relate only to terrorist and terrorist support activities, and do not include arrests relating to subversion and espionage charges.

Thus Marxist Media barons of India desensitised the world to any coming massacre of Hindus....Then the Jehadis struck . On September 24 2002 Jehadis entred the temple complex of Ashkhardham and fired at children, pregnant women and women. Even months-old infants were not spared. Kids were asked to chant Vandematharam and then shot dead. Children witnessed their mothers die and parents saw their children killed by cold blooded Jehadis. And ...Yes you guessed it ...Media barons once again rationalised this Jehadi brutality and said "Oh just revenge killings!". Secularism was restored to its pristine glory by Marxist Media barons and Jehadis thus. Vive la secularism!

Gujarat - Facts that Scream in silence-I

Repetition of certain patterns are disturbing. Soon after the twin towers collapsed rumours spread fast through e-mail and certain web-sites that it was a Zionist conspiracy. It is to the credit of responsible mainsetram media of United States that this propaganda was exposed as false and when a very educated Pakistani doctor repeated this propaganda line in a BBC talkshow the talkshow host restrained him. Now let us ponder over what happened in the case of Godhra. A rumour was spread via e-mail as soon as the Godhra tragedy became a news, that a 16 year old granddaughter of a Muslim tea vendor was abused and kidnapped by the Karsevaks. This e-mail based rumour was repeated by columnists like human rights champion V.R.Krishna Iyer and Syed Naqvi and 'national' newspapers like The Hindu and The Indian Express carried it out. In Tamil Nadu where 'little magazines' are a thriving business and which have also a substantial market among educated Muslim youths and Muslim insitutions, the story was repeated. However, one journalist , who has no love lost for BJP decided to check out the truth about the above statement and he made some investigations. In the magazine Outlook dated 25.03.2002 Prem Sankar Jha (a close friend of anti-BJP V.P.Singh) exposed that this rumour was an unsubstantiated lie and the rumour mentioned a journalist as having witnessed this ghastly act of Karsevaks kidnapping 16 years old grand daughter of Muslim Vendor and that journalist not only denied that thic incident took place but he also remarked that the Godhra incident could have been pre-planned. In Pre Shankar Jha's own words

That was when I got my first surprise. Soni not only categorically denied having ever filed such a story, but also claimed that the contents of the mail were the exact opposite of what had happened. We were interrupted by another phone call (his life was being made miserable by inquiries). The next day when I called him again, he was out but I got his young son Vimal on the line. Vimal told me in great detail what his father had actually found out at the site of the tragedy. He said it was pre-planned and went on to add chilling details that his father had not included in his stories.
However these did not stop our Left intellectuals from inciting Muslims throughout India. Islamic fundamentalists are also no fools to let off this golden opportunity to alienate their community and pit against Kaffir Hindus. Thus in the July 2002 issue of Samarasam the magazine of Jammiat-e- Islami in TamilNadu, carried out the same story. Another much propagated story was of Modi quoting Newon's law. Cybernoon dated 19 arch 2002 exposed this false propaganda. It later transpired that the reporter who made this statement never met Modi on the date Modi was said to have remarked so. The reporter acknowledged that he heard so from anoter reporter through phone and he spiced it out in a major national newspaper. Then there is the typical case of Jaffery MPs non-existent daughter being raped and killed by a Hindu mob (while in reality his daughters were living in luxury abroad and one right in that great Satan of Islamists- USA). First reported by Time and later morphed into a highly emotional traumatic true story in the strong words of fiction writer Arundathi Roy (who herself is notorious for violations of forest laws and building bungalows in tribal forest areas), the article was translated into 11 Indian languages and were distributed often freely to the educated youths of Muslim community by leftwing organizations. Later when Bulbir Punj exposed the falsehood of the story Time apologized and Ms.Roy was made to eat the humble pie. However the aforesaid article was printed in thousands by organizations like Thiruvannamalai Progressive Writers Association and distributed in Islamic areas like Kayalpattinam (which has witnessed enough of Hindu-Muslim clashes) where they opened even a special stall to distribute Ms.Roy's article (translated into Tamil by a leading leftist called R.Kuppuswamy) with no modifications. Now let us also see from where Ms.Roy got her false data. In her apology she stated

My information (mis-information, as it turned out) was cross-checked from two sources. Time magazine (March 11) in an article by Meenakshi Ganguly and Anthony Spaeth; and "Gujarat Carnage 2002: A Report to the Nation" by an independent fact-finding mission which included K.S. Subrahmanyam, former IGP Tripura, and S.P. Shukla, former finance secretary. I spoke to Mr Subrahmanyam about the error. He said his information at that time came from a senior police official.
See how these high profile organizations so mindlessly let a lie enter their'fact finding mission'. Here through a sheer accident did this 'fact' of rape and murder got exposed. And who knows how many more fabricated lies remain unexposed in their fictious reports of so-called 'fact-finding missions'.

The propaganda against Hindus took very subtle forms. Engineered photos carried on a subliminal propaganda which makes even Hitler and Stalin look like kindergarten kids. Here see the cover picture of The Week: Anyone will think that this is a crowd of Tishul carrying Hindu mob that is burning down a Muslim locality or indulging in burning innocent people. Now let us see the original picture where there are no Tishuls nor are they savage onlookers looking at a riot fire consuming humans or properties belonging to minority community. Of course the editor of The Week does have a right to make digital collages of riot images but in this case there is a subtle fruadulent propaganda being played on the mind of the readers of the magazine.
-[to be continued]

Veneration and iconographic representation of Serpent divinity in Kanyakumari District - a bird's eyeview

The veneration and depiction of the Divine in Serpentine form is universal and can be found in neolithic cultures onwards throughout the world (Neolithic is dated variedly in different regions from 16000 BCE to 2000 BCE). Serpent mother Goddess is a frequent theme came across in paleolithic sacred art. However only a very few cultures enjoyed and experienced the evolution of this stream of representation of the sacred in an un-obstructed way.

Kanyakumari district - the southernmost end of the mainland of Bharatham that is India, is one such. Here one can see the veneration of Divine in serpent form in many dimensions and all these interconnected and woven together in a harmonious way. The capital of Kanyakumari district is a town called Nagerkovil - literally this means temple of Serpent. The deity is called 'Sri Nagaraja' the King of Serpents.
Sri Nagaraja TempleThe main deity is called Anantha krishnan- here ananthan is the name assocaiated with Balarama who is the incarnation of Aathi Sesha - the serpent on which MahaVishnu sleeps. The earliest historically attested rulers of this region, called Aai kings are referred to in Sangham literature. There is a refernce to one Aai king called Neela Nagan in Sangam literature. In the popular representation of Sri Krishna and Balarama are dressed in yellow and blue respectively and hence the name Neela Nagan clearly refers to the veneration of Balarama in this part of south-Bharatham even during the Sangham period. The Jains who were in a considerable number in Venad (later day Travancore which also consisted of Kanyakumari district) also have Sri Krishna and Anantha (Balarama) in their mythology. Jains also relate Nagaraja as a Yaksha to Parsuvanatha. Hence syncretic traditions of worship rather than conflict-oriented traditions started evolving in this region. The pillar sculptures of Sri Nagaraja temple show Jain thirthankaras as well as Siva and Vishnu in the same pillars usually with all Divinities associated with Serpents.

The uniqueness of this temple and its importance to the religious and social life of this region can be guaged by the representation of turtles in most of the temples of Vedic streams as well as in the Mandapams built across Kanyakumari and also in some areas of Thirunelveli district. The turtle icon reminds one of the importance of Sri Nagaraja as turtle is the vehicle of Anantha Sesha which carries the earth. The dwaja (flag) that is hoisted in the Nagaraja temple is also that of turtle only.

Popular worship-I : The Serpentine association with Deities have some common similarities and also some distinctions. Thus Siva Lingam - the manifest creative energy of cosmic auspciousness- is often depicted with two coiled snakes under whose raise hoods is the Siva Lingam with the Avudayar. In another representation (in a village temple called Kariyamannikapura Vinnagaram - near Suchindrum) there is a Avudayar like peedam (base) in which infant Sri Krishna stands under a five hooded serpent. Also common are the icon of Sri Krishna dancing on a serpent. Interestingly in many depcitions the Kalinga snake is shown one headed -perhaps to purposefully distingusih villainous Kalinga from divine Serpent usually represented with five hoods.Mostly Deities are shown under the five hooded Serpent. Many such small statues can be found throughout the district as well as in temples. Hundreds of such statues can be found under banyan trees that are immediately next to the Sri Nagaraja temple wall -within the temple campus. On sundays women offer turmeric mixed milk on these statues and even eggs are offered. In one interesting depiction among these statues, Dakshina Murthy like Siva can be seen but here instead of the banyan tree one finds the five hooded serpent above His head.

Popular worship-II : Another aspect of Snake in its veneration is it being symbolic of earth energy, fertility symbol etc. This stream that can be found in most popular worship of Naga devathas. They act as markers where sacred grooves start and they are also invariable found in most temple ponds and lakes and in almost all traditional water harvesting/managing structures of the Kanyakumari district. They are the guardian Deities of the nature and today they should serve as conscience keepers to the people of the district who have already closed and converted into bus-stands and shopping complexes community water bodies and temple tanks. On days of festivals the crop-heads are offered to the Naga Devatas and Deities under the hoods of Nagas. One question arises naturally as to whether this aspect of snake veneration and the snake veneration as we see in the Nagaraja worship are connected or are they two separate streams? Well there does exist a connection between Sri Nagaraja worship and the worship of Naga Devathas of fields, water bodies and sacred grooves. Nagaraja is closely related to anantha, who by carrying the earth is closely associated with soil.

In fact, it is the soil from the pit that is given as Prasad to the devotees of Sri Nagaraja along with Vibuthi (Holy ash). So the seeming diverse streams of Naga worship do have connecting links - almost archetypal. Apart from being guardians of the sacred grooves and water bodies, the relation of the Serpent divinity with mother Goddesses comes alive in the offerings of bronze, aluminium and silver icons of five hooded snakes made to Goddesses like Mandaikaddu Bhagavathi and Kollankodu Bhagavathi (both are seashore side shrines of mother Goddesses) on the respective temple festival days called Kodai.

Kundalini: Yet another dimension of Serpent veneration is, its relation to the depiction of Kundalini. At Thickurichi, a village in western Kanyakumari district one finds Rishi Pathanjali with folded hands with the five hooded serpent above his head. At Ponmalai (also called Thirumalai as famous Thirumalai Nayakkar was conceived by his mother in a fort near this temple- the king has done many services to this temple) one finds an interesting depiction of a serpentine coil that looks very similar to usual Kundalini representation.

It is in this connection that we should also see the way the Siva Linga is held in apex of the two coiled serpents with the coiled serpents forming a hood cover over the Siva Linga. What is given above is in general a very simplified overview of Snake veneration and depiction of the sacred in the sacred art and architecture of Kanyakumari district.
I hope this preliminar draft inspires researchers to take up the challenge of holistically understanding and presenting this unique cultural heritage of Kanyakumari district that has seen uninterrupted evolution over thousands of years and has organic connections with the different spiritual streams that flow into that eternal ocean called Indian culture.

Post Script:
Find below sketches of traditional water management structures of Rajasthan taken from the book 'Aaj be khavre hai thalab' by Sri.Anupam Mishra

How many such hidden organic strings unite this nation from Kashmir to Kanyakumari?

I thank Thiru.S.Ramachandran of Tamil Nadu Archeology Survey who was the curator of Korkai as well as Tharangampadi museums and who has deciphered hundreds of stone inscriptions throughout Tamil Nadu. His encyclopaedic knowledge of Tamil history free from bias as well as his incredible memory - one needs to experience it to be believed. I express my heart-felt gratitude to him for awakening me to the presence of history throbbing around my own district. He provided some crucial data in writing this article.

Photos:S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Two years after Marad massacre-Some new links emerge

BBC News:Sunday, 4 May, 2003, 11:31 GMT 12:31 UK -Report by Charles Haviland
The victims, who have died in the past two days since Friday's attack in the state of Kerala, were all Hindus. The Kerala Chief Minister, AK Antony, is visiting the village to try to broker peace.Police remain on high alert in the hamlet of Marad near the city of Calicut. They say the carnage on the beach there was the result of a well-planned attack, using lethal weapons.Among the dead was a man about to celebrate his marriage. Two women are among those injured.Of more than 60 people arrested, 40 were held after a raid on a mosque from which weapons were also seized, including 17 bombs.

The Hindu dated: June 8 2003

...the BJP State president, C.K. Padmanabhan, said the Government in general and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in particular were afraid of a CBI inquiry. The party is convinced that only a CBI probe could bring out the truth, given the fact that the UDF partner, IUML, is involved in the violence. Though the district authorities had sealed the Marad mosque, the Muslim League MP, E. Ahmed, had unlocked it and held prayers there, in a provocative manner. The National Development Front (NDF) agenda is being executed by the Muslim League on various issues. The meeting convened by the Cabinet sub-committee on Marad was boycotted by the party as the Government's sincerity is questionable, he said. The Hindus were being forced in many ways to shift from the coastal areas, he said.

The Hindu dated: April 1 2003, Kerala

Did, Kozhikode Assistant Commissioner of Police (South Zone), M. Abdul Rahim try to shield Marad killer?
The Kerala Police Academy Deputy Inspector General of Police (Training), Sanjeev Kumar Patjoshi, has said that the former Kozhikode Assistant Commissioner of Police (South Zone), M. Abdul Rahim, "might have tried to shield Bijili".Bijili is the second accused in the massacre of nine persons at Marad village on May 2, 2003.In his deposition before the Marad Judicial Inquiry Commission, Thomas P. Joseph, here today, Mr. Patjoshi, who was the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner from November 11, 2001 to March 19, 2003, said that after he received an intelligence report about Bijili on January 20, 2003, he asked the ACP (Special Branch), ACP (South) and Circle Inspector Cheruvannur police station to monitor the activities of Bijili and all the others whose names figured on the communal-goonda list. On January 24, 2003, Mr. Rahim made "visiting remarks" in the supervisor officer's visit book at the Beypore police station that Bijili could not be traced from Marad area. He was given the name of Noufal, an accused in the January 2002 riots, when he contacted the Kozhikode Special Branch unit, Mr. Patjoshi said. (Mr. Rahim is at present Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Thiruvananthapuram. He said that Mr. Rahim had said that there were "so many Abubackers" at Marad when asked why he had remarked that there was no such person by the name Bijili. Mr. Rahim was asked to further investigate the matter since he not only disbelieved him but also stood by the authenticity of the intelligence report, Mr. Patjoshi said. Later, Mr. Rahim told him that he questioned Bijili. He did not find any difficulty in tracing Bijili, Mr. Patjoshi said.He said that he was not aware how Mr. Rahim questioned Bijili since he was involved with the cases of the Muthanga incidents. Mr. Rahim had merely recorded Bijili's statements that also pointed to his dereliction of duty, he said. Mr. Patjoshi said he had received reports that certain organisations and elements were instigating people to create violence. There was also information that some organisations were amassing weapons at Marad. But there was no concrete information about violence.

The Hindu dated: May 14 2005, Kerala

ISI, Iran funded NDF: Senior Superintendent of Police

Neera Rawat, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has said that the Kozhikode Special Branch during her tenure as Kozhikode City Police Commissioner from March 22, 1997 to May 16 1999, had gathered information and prepared a report about the National Development Front's (NDF) links with the Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). Ms. Rawat was deposing before the Marad Judicial Inquiry Commission, Thomas P. Joseph, through the video conferencing facility...During her examination Ms. Rawat said that she had also constituted a special squad to assist the Special Branch to collect information about the activities of the NDF. The police had then prepared reports that the ISI and Iran were the fund sponsors of the NDF. The Special Branch had collected reports using its sources and methods. Its reports were confidential and authentic, she said...Ms. Rawat also stated that the Special Branch had also given reports regarding the transportation of arms in ambulance vans.

Today the very same Muslim Leaguer is a cabinet minister in the MainoReich. Hindu lives are worth noting in this experiment with secularism. It is time Hindus realize that Jehad is , as defined by Sri.KPS Gill, a war on our culture, our way of life and our values. The war has been declared and Hindus are getting killed in a well-planned manner. It is upto you to decide the gravity of situation and act. Today in Nagercoil where i live, an islamic radical outfit has opened its center - 'Manitha Urimai Pasarai'. It aims at Dalit conversion and using them as cannon fodder -by training them as terrorists. In their meeting the speakers spoke leftist rhetoric. There is definitely a symbiotic relation between left and pan-islamic forces. Secular state of India as it exists today in India is only a 'proto-islamic' state.

A hypocrite exposed: A daring book!

A wonderful book that exposes a fraudulent maniac - who masqueraded as rationalist and social reformer
This book is written by a daring young man who has atlast told the Tamils their pseudo-rational emperor is not only nude but downright vulgar arrogant maniacal hypocrite. The book gives 222 pages of pure reason showing how EVR cheated Tamils in the name of social-justice and rationalism.

EVR called himself rationalist but acted more as an agent of conversion for islam and christianity.
He talked about women empowerment and married a 26 year old when he himself was more than 70.
He literally talked nonsense about epics while he was totally ignorant of them. For example, EVR tells that according to Jain Ramayan Dasaratha married his own sister and M.Venkatesan quotes Jain Ramayana showing nothing of that sort exists. Clearly, EVR has been cheating people.
M.Venkatesan shows how EVR even slights Dr.Ambedkar taking credit where not due.
EVR is often projected as lover of Tamils but M.Venkatesan documents how he categorically stated that English is superior to Tamil. Why? Because EVR thinks English men do not use obscene words while scolding while Tamils use many such words.
Many colleagues of EVR have written about his shifting opportunistic stands that suited only his prejudices and self-interets rather than the cause of social justice.

Every Tamil should read this valuable book and this book should also be translated into English. Get it today and make it a best seller. Present it to every library in your vicinity. Since then he has been an enthusiastic student of Indian culture. He is closely associated with Institut de Researche Evolutives (Paris) and is known in India mainly for his extremely beautiful, thought provoking book, 'Invasion that never was'. Published originally in 1996 the book was praised by prestigeous Puratattva - magazine of Indian Archaeology. Danino brought the excitement and achievements of Indian archaeologists to Indian public - particularly the roots of Indian culture uncovered by archaeologists which lay deep in the Saraswathi-Sindhu Civilization. Danino has also founded The International Forum for India’s Heritage (IFIH) consisting of eminent scholars, professors, teachers, artists, scientists, social workers, environmentalists, thinkers and writers from India and abroad -bringing them together to promote the timeless and universal values of India’s cultural heritage in all fields of national life. The website is available here
Below you shall find some of his recent books:This book consists of two thought provoking texts by Danino. The first presents Sri Aurobindo's dynamic view of Indian culture, its vigour and practicality and its present state of deep neglect. The second making use of recent archaeological findings, gives an overview of the so-called Aryan problem which has distorted the perspective of Indian history serving political vested interests particularly in Tamil Nadu. Talking about Tamil Nadu Sri.Danino has done wonderful service to Tamil Nadu by bringing this book in Tamil also. The first text of the book is the lecture Sri.Danino gave at New Delhi at the celebration Human Resource Ministry in collaboration with NCERT, to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo. Here is a quote from that lecture:
A German or French or English child will be taught something of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, because they are regarded as the root of European culture and somehow present in European consciousness today. ...But Indian Epics a hundred times richer and vaster in human expeience, a thousand time more present in Indian consciousness will not taught to an Indian child. Not to speak of other important texts such as the beautiful Tamil epics, Shilapathikkaram and Manimekalai.
The other text titled The riddle of India's Ancient Pastis the lecture Sri Danino presented to Sri Chinmaya mission on Value education. It is a lucid presentation on the overview of Aryan problem. Sri.Danino quotes Sri Aurobindo and Dr.Ambedkar extensively. It is a pity that those who make political capital using Dr.Ambedkar's name often betray and insult his sacred memory by embracing the Aryan Invasion Theory - a theory that according to Dr.Ambedkar belongs to the dustbin.
Is Indian Culture Obsolete - is another title in the Vande Mataram series published by Sri.Danino. This too contains two lectures by the author. One is a lecture given at Bharathiya Vichar Kendra, Kerala on the occassion of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary and the other lecture is titled Gita in Si Aurobindo's experience. The first lecture shows how relevant and alive is the Indian Culture today and how alienated and insensitive are a section of the educated Indians to this vitality of Indian culture. The second lecture deals with how Sri Aurobindo's indepth study of Bhagavath Gita illuminates its core message which is very relevant to the problems of the world community faces today. Here is an agonizing question Sri.Danino places before our conscience:
Is Indian culture then something so shameful, so ignoble that it has to be concealed from our children, except in the privacy of our home? Well perhaps it is after all, but, if it is, let us have the courage to declare so openly and have done with it rather than brandish it just to attract foreign tourists to a few temples and ruins. I cannot resist the temptation of mentioning a case in point: it is significant that none of our successive education ministers thought it worthwhile to give Swami Vivekananda's or Sri Aurobindo's names to just one out of the 216 universities spread over the country...This omission may be small thing in itself but it is revealing of the unease the establishment feels towards these personalities.
Again Danino has brought out a lucid Tamil translation. Tamil Nadu also owes him a lot for he has also brought out a well researched article on the Vedic roots of Indian culture This article is a well-researched article that deconstructs many colonial myths like Aryan-Dravidian binary which has played such a havoc in Sri Lankan Ethnic conflict. The article is an eye-opener. One wishes Sri.Danino shall enlarge upon the topic and make it a book and publish it in Tamil and English. The readers of this blog are requested by the writer to get the copies of the books mentioned above not only for themselves but also for the nearby libraries (including Government and Lending libraries) as well as to education institutions - and thus participate in this service of Punya Sri.Danino is doing our Tamil land in particular and Bharatha desam in general.

To get books contact:
Michel Danino, 80 Swarnambika Layout, Ramnagar, Coimbatore-641009.

Ayodhya Excavation, Report and Reactions

In late 2002, the Allahabad High Court secretly ordered the scanning of the site’s underground. Even as pseudo-secular Marxist, 'eminent' historians of leftist circles joined hands with pro-Taliban Islamic fundamentalist organizations and decried Ground Penetration Radar survey, Canadian geo-physicist Claude Robillard was very cautious in telling what he had discovered. The Tojo India Vikas International Company carried out a Ground Penetration Radar survey and found indications of a structure in and around the mosque site. Canadian geophysicist Claude Robillard, invited by Tojo to give his expert reading, couldn’t say just what building had been there, but: "All I know is, there is some structure under the mosque." (Rediff.com, 19 March 2003) [Elst, Found and Lost: the Ayodhya Evidence] Then during the excavations, attempts were made to stop the archaeological excavations. This was followed by planting false stories based on self-generated rumours often attributed
'official who does not want to be named ' etc. This was done prominently by a daily from Chennai (Madaras) which calls itself 'national daily' but is a mono-caste newspaper and was a crawler before the heels of British and India's own brief fascist regime of Indira Gandhi in 1975. [Interestingly the newspaper afore-mentioned is edited by a person who perversely ridicules H.H.Dalai Lama and justifies the Chinese occupation of Tibet. Curiously even the name of the magazine that comes from the house of this newspaper is Frontline - the name of the official propaganda magazine of Communist Party of China that justified illegal occupation of Indian land by Chinese. Such is the stuff with which India's degenarate pseudo-secular media is made of.] An indepth study made by Belgian Indologist and secular humanist Dr. Koenraad Elst, of the behaviour pattern of the so-called secular, but actually pro-Taliban, Indian media in reporting the proceedings of the archaeological discoveries at Ayodhya, is available here . Let us see what a left-magazine reporter has to say on the whole issue. Sandipan Deb an investigative reporter and now Managing editor of Outlook got into the excavation area and reported directly what transpires there unlike other arm-chair reporters of pseudo-secular variety and he writes in OutLook dated June 2, 2003 and titled "Secrets of the shrine" :

The picture they showed on May 8 is the most crucial and exciting find till now. When the ASI flashed the picture on the screen, a shiver ran down the spines of the pro-mandir men in the room. This picture, they feel, is clinching proof of the existence of a Ram temple which Babar destroyed to build his mosque: "We have found the pillars of the Ram temple, now we have found the Lord's name. Our case is impregnable."
What they saw is an immensely blown-up version of some inscriptions the ASI has found on a stone slab 6.8 m under the ground. Since just a small part of the slab is protruding from the wall of trench J3, the diggers will not be able to retrieve the slab without obliterating the baulk between J3 and the next trench. This will take time. In the meantime, they have photographed whatever they can see of the slab. What they can see is early Devanagari script
The pseudo-secularist zeal for pure data here borders the ridiculous. Deb reports:
Recently, one evening, when the ASI official was reading out the list of the day's finds, the nominee of one litigant objected to the ASI saying "terracotta human figurine"."To say 'human' is to interpret the artefact, which is not your job," was the objection. "You should only say 'figurine'."
Now a reaction appeared from an eminent historian one Prof K.M. Shrimali, Professor of History, Delhi University. His rant accused Deb of
relying on half-baked information, and that too mutilated out of context, might be the methodology of the vhp but its invocation by Deb casts serious doubts about his motive.
After flaunting planted reports of arm-chair reporters based on anonymous sources as 'proof' for the non-existence of mandir, the Marxist professor accuses Deb in the words of a politician is only one of the many intimidating techniques used by Marxist and Pseudo-secular Talibans in Indian media. Nevertheless Deb gave a retort and in that he revealed more. Thus on June 23,2003 Deb said in an article titled 'No escape Right or Left' thus:

While most papers covering the new ASI report last week said that it claims there was no structure under the Babri masjid, what the report actually says is that of the 30 recent trenches, the team has found man-made structures in eight, and none in 16. In five, they couldn't decide due to "structural activities at the upper levels" (mainly the plinth of the Babri masjid). One trench they did not survey. Among the structures listed in the report are several brick walls "in east-west orientation", several in "north-south orientation", "decorated coloured floor", several "pillar bases", and a "1.64-metre high decorated black stone pillar (broken) with yaksha figurines on four corners". Now that I am sounding like a "running dog of the VHP" to the "lunatic lefties", let me quickly add that they also found "Arabic inscription of holy verses on stone".But what many people have missed out on—due to bias or sloth—is that these are findings only from the period of May 22 to June 6. This is not the full list. If they read the earlier reports, they would also find listed

several walls,
a staircase, and
two black basalt columns"bearing fine decorative carvings with two cross-legged figures in bas-relief on a bloomed lotus with a peacock whose feathers are raised upwards".

So, at last when the report of the Archaeological Survey of India came out media and left historians cried foul and called it fraudulent. Surely accepting defeat in grace is not exactly the attribute of dishonest people. Particulary the way the so-called 'eminent' historian Irfan Habib behaved shocked the neutral observers. The way these leftist 'historians' behaved made Dr.Dilip.K.Chakrabarti Professor of archaeology from the University of Cambridge had to write in Hindustan Times, an ed-article, appropriately titled "It’s the archaeology, stupid!". He wrote
"To cast a slur on the findings of what is undoubtedly the best and most dependable professional archaeological organisation in the country is an act of pure political expediency. Whatever we can accuse the ASI of, conscious falsification of data cannot be one of them."Concluded the Cambridge faculty thus:
"The ASI excavators are likely to have produced many structural features. They must have produced many section-drawings as well so that other people can judge what they have done. I have no doubt that they have done their duty professionally and faithfully"(This original URL of the article is no more functional: http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_354171,00120001.htm).

Irfan Habib the pseudo-secular mouth piece of anti-national AIBMAC (which gave a call some years before to boycott Indian Republic Day) raised objections -again bordering the ridiculous.

Bones:(by Habib) The presence of animal bones indicated no temple could have existed.
Fact: (by Dr S P Gupta), According to certain Hindu practices, animals are sacrificed, as even to this day, animals are sacrificed at Vaishnava temple of Jagannathpuri, Kamakhya temple (Assam), Kali temple (Bengal), and Shiva temple (Uttar Pradesh) and many places throughout the country. Further Islamic aggressors also had the habit of slaughtering cows in the sanctum sanctorum of Hindu temples before destroying them to humiliate Hindus

Lime mortar : According to Habib it was used in the making of floors and bonding of bricks for the first time in India only by the sultans of Delhi in the early 13th century. Fact: History books mention that lime mortar was used from the 2nd century BC in Stupa at Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh. Nalanda in Bihar and Kausambhi in Uttar Pradesh are two well-known examples of lime-mortar use. The mixture was extensively used by Gahadval kings of 11th and 12th centuries in temples at Sarnath as well.

Glazed ware: Habib points out that “glazed ware appeared in India with the coming of the Muslims at Sonkh, Mathura”. Fact: In a typical manner of half-truths Habib hides the fact that the ASI report states that the tiles found belong to the original construction of the disputed structure.

Pillars: Irfan Habib and Suraj Bhan say that the pillars could not carry the heavy load of the hall and only a temporary structure such as a cowshed could have existed.
Fact: Actually Pillars belong to two periods. The lower level of the pillars belong to the 10th century temple while 46 of them belonging to the upper level are from the 12th century CE temple. Further this is what Sandipan Deb saw

These "pillar bases" are roughly squarish structures (about 3 ft by 3 ft to my eye) made of rough bricks that have been found all over the excavation area. They are separated from each other by about 3.5 m, and appear to be aligned in rows, at least to the naked eye.and as some Hindus present at the excavation site point out ""Can Habib saab then explain why the pillar bases are all in neat rows and separated from one another by the same distance, about 3.5 m?"

Parnala:Irfan calls the ‘circular temple with parnala’ found at a corner on the southern side as a tomb. Fact: But it was a water-chute (parnala)- a feature of a temple with Linga worship.

And here are a few pictures:

Further the ASI has discovered

carved architectural foliage pattern,
amalaka,
kapotapali,
lotus motif
circular shrine having parnala in the north,
the 50 pillar bases as distinctive features of temples.

Rational Justified Conclusion?
“Viewing in totality and taking into account the archaeological evidence of a massive structure just below the disputed structure and evidence of continuity in structural phases from the 10th century onwards up to the construction of the disputed structure… (the findings) are indicative of remains which are distinctive features found associated with the temples of north India.”

Liars of the Maino Reich

Finally was it a Masjid that was pulled down by Karsevaks on December 6 1992 as alleged by the media? Here is a picture of the so-called Masjid as it existed before Dec-6-1992 as it existed for more than 40 years. Yes ! It was a functional temple and not a mosque The pseudo-secular media and politicians simply cheated the Muslims and helped Islamic fundamentalist terrorism grown in India by lying that a Masjid was destroyed by Hindus while all the time it remained a functional temple and with Ayodhya Muslims peacefully accepting the fact.

Zionism,Racism, Dalits and exchanges with a Christian apologist

On Racism, Zionism and Dalit empowerment

In the year 2001 during the Durban conference certain NGOs in collusion with global evangelical organizations like World Christian Council (WCC) sought to project caste divisions in India in par with racist discrimination elsewhere in the world. Also there was an concerted attempt to get Zionism equated with racism. These letters were published in The New Indian Express [Madurai Edition]

Caste and Race - a Just Comparison?
[Published in The New Indian Express dated: 16.07.2001]

This is with reference to a controversy that is being purposefully created as to whether or not the caste problem in India should be equated with racial discrimination in an international forum. There can be no denying the fact that caste system and the oppression and discrimination that come with it can never be accepted by any rational human being. But should it be equated with racism? Late Dr.Isaac Asimov once made a critical observation that caste system arises usually in a society with less resources and low mobility. In India, caste system evolved most probably when the Saraswathi-Sindhu civilization was facing ecological catastrophes. Many Indian sociologists have documented both vertical and horizontal caste movements in Indian society and surely caste system was not fossilized and but more dynamic. The fossilization of caste system came with the arrival of British colonization. Hence a 3000 years old continous suppression of today's depressed classes is a myth. Even Manu Smrithi is only a temporal law and not unchangeable revelation (like Christian Bible, a revealed unalterable scripture which was quoted by slave owners to justify slavery). Manu Smrithi too was promoted by colonial administrators as against many diverse Smrithis available. (For a more detailed discussion on this aspect by a renowned Indian feminist see here) It should be remembered that caste inequalities have been successfully fought and whole communities liberated from the clutches of exploiting vested interests by spiritual avatars like Ayya Vaikundar, and Sri Narayana Guru rather than by the western-educated, international-seminar attending elites. . Interestingly, people who are crying today to equate caste with racial discrimination were ideologically wedded to those fought against the efforts of spiritual reformers like Ayya Vaikundar, Swami Vivekananda etc. by spreading calumnies against them By equating caste system with racial discrimination certain NGOs with vested interests are clearly trying to infuse new blood into the now academically dead corpse of Aryan Invasion Theory.
-S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Zionism - not an expansionist creed
[Published in The New Indian Express 11-09-2001]

This is with reference to the claims made recently by many NGOs at Durban equating Zionism with racism. Zionism is a movement of the Jewish nation to regain their Holy land and mother land, Palestine. Unlike Islam and Christianity Judaism has never been an expansionist religion. Theodor Herzl the father of political Zionism outlined his vision for a Jewish state in Der Judenstaat (The Jewish State) published in December 1896 in which he desired "the benefit of all mankind". And he never talked about the persecution of non-believers (Gentiles or Kaffirs or Heathens). In today's Israel ,true to his vision, the holy city of Jerusalem belongs to all three great monotheist religions unlike it was before -when in the hands of crusaders or jehadis. Today Bahais live in Israel fearless of persecution and so do the Druze and many other globally persecuted minority populations. For example Bedouin Arabs owe the conservation of their cultural identity without it being destroyed by Pan-Arabism to the state of Israel. Yet it is interesting if not downright absurd to see many Arab nations accuse Israel of racism and claim that Zionism as equivalent to racism. This is despite the fact that most Arab countries have seldom any respect for human rights or religious freedom or democracy. So it can be said that with Evangelism, Pan-Arabism and Marxism there are real reasons to classify them as forms of racism rather than with Zionism which is the legitimate expression of the spiritual aspiration of a long persecuted people.
-S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Dalit empowerment and Hindu Nationalism
[published in The New Indian Express -20.11.2001]

This is with reference to the news about the alleged mass conversion plan of Dalit Hindus to Buddhism (TNIE, Nov.4 2001). The so-called Dalit leader Ram Raj (now Udit Raj) has made an allegation that the Sangh parivar is against the mass conversion of Dalits to Buddhism. This is an absurd statement arising out of pure ignorance. Hindu nationalists have traditionally wanted a casteless Hindu society but being well aware of the deep roots this system has into our psyche they have been working out a slow but sure strategy to wean away Hindus from casteism. That is why Dr. Ambedkar had more convergence with Veer Savarkar than with the secularist Congress leaders. Often Dr.Ambedkar's 'Riddles of Hinduism' is shown by anti-Hindu forces to depict him as being hostile to Hinduism. But the ideological precursor of Hindu nationalism, Arya Samaj had produced harsher criticism of Puranic traditions which Ambedkar also criticized. Veer Savarkar and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya -both Hindu Maha Sabha leaders- encouraged Dr.Ambedkar's initial decision to convert Dalits to Sikhism. But it was the Congress leadership then which, prevailed upon Dr.Ambedkar not to convert. And one just has to go through Raghul Sangrithyayan's writings to understand the contempt Communists had for Dr.Ambedkar. In his later years when Dr. Ambedkar wanted to convert his choice of Buddhism was due to his abhorrence for non-Indic traditions. He openly stated that Dalits should not trust expansionist religions with extra-territorial roots trying to take advantage of their plight. Recently even prominent leaders of Hindu Sangathan embraced Sikhism. VHP itself has prominent Buddhist monks among its founding members. So it is high time Dalits realise the fact that Sangh Parivar is the one movement and Hinduthva is the only vision through which they can empower themselves and regain the vast heritage that is rightfully theirs.
S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Exchange of letters with a Christian gentleman :

This letter appeared in The New Indian Express dated 31.May.2001

Stony Silence

This is with reference to the different reports which are appearing in many newspapers that various church denominations had asked their followers to vote against the NDA candidates in the recent elections.

The Christian Churches irrespective of their denominations have always aligned themselves with forces of racism colonialism and they have also been traditionally anti-science. For example Martin Luther the founder of Protestant faction described Jews as 'the vermin' on the face of planet. The Pope Pius XII was known as Hitler's Pope not only because of his silence against the Nazi regime but also for the active role of Church in the genocides perpetrated in Croatia. The roots of Singhalese-Tamil ethnic violence have been proved to be in the pseudo-scientific Aryan-Dravidian race theories promoted by missionaries like Max Muller and Robert Caldwell. Categorising of Tamils and Singhalese as distinct races by the colonial census officers was done at the instance of missionaries. The missionary support to the terrorist outfits like NLFT which are involved in the ethnic cleansing of Hindus in the North West and North East regions of India, is a well documented fact. It is ironical that the same church which kept a stony silence throughout the freedom struggle, which spread calumnies against the saint of Indian nationalism Swami Vivekananda, which chose to be the silent observer of Holocaust by Nazis - should now take an active interest in politics after spreading fabricated stories both in India and abroad about the persecution of Christians under NDA rule. Is it because of the fact that the leader of opposition is now a Roman Catholic whose father was an open admirer and soldier of Fascist Catholic regime of Italy?
-S.Aravindan Neelakandan

"Prejudiced"-A Christian Replies

This letter appeared in The New Indian Express dated 09.June.2001. Thiru.S.R.James from Madurai wrote:

This has reference to the letter entitled "Stony Silence" in which the writer has indulged in malicious slander against Christians in Germany, Croatia, Italy, Sri Lanka and India in particular. He has levelled several charges against the Christians in India. Let us look at the first "Christians in India kept a stony silence throughout the freedom struggle." Let him check the register of freedom fighters (kept in the Home Ministry) who get pension for their sacrifice and servcices to our country during the freedom struggle. A good number of them are Christians who were in the forefront of the freedom struggles like Quit India Movement and Gandhiji's Salt Sathyagraha. In fact one of Sardar Vedarathnam's trusted men in South was a Christian: Samuel Thasan of Tanjore. Gandhiji's close associates during the freedom struggle were two Christians: C.F.Andrews and Annie Beasent. The second charge: "Christians in India spread fabricated stories about the persecution of Christians under NDA rule." The Australian missionary Steins was burnt to death along with his two sons while sleeping in his jeep by Dara Singh and his associates. Is this a fabricated story? Two Catholic priests were shot dead in the North Eastern states. Nuns were raped in Central India. Churches in Orissa and Bihar were blasted and destroyed. Are these stories fabricated? Another Charge: "The church spread calumnies against Swami Vivekananda" This is utterly false. Swamiji was held in high esteem by Christians because he had broad and magnanimous views about Christianity. He had good rapport with many Christians in India and the United States. Anyway these charges, unsubstantiated, sufficiently are a reflection of the writer's prejudice against the Christians on a global scale.
-S.R.James, Madurai.

My Reply to S.R.James
- published in the New Indian Express 28.06.2001

This is with reference to the letter 'Prejudiced' (June 9) wherein the writer has accused the statements made in my letter 'Stony Silence'(May 31) as malicious slander. Therefore it is my duty to present some clarifications and provide some facts reagarding the statements made in the letter 'Stony Silence'.
The learned writer points out that many Christians have participated in the freedom struggle. Neither have I denied that fact nor have I questioned the patriotism of Christians. What I have referred to is the silence of teh Church throughout the freedom struggle: contrasting that silence against the overtly political voices the Church makes today. Let me also point out a factual error in the aforesaid letter. Dr. Annie Beasent started her public life as a rationalist and later became a theosophist. Theosophy rejects the basic propositions of Christianity. So Dr.Beasent cannot be reagrded as Christian. Rev.Charles Freer Andrews was surely sympathetic to Indian cause. An Anglican priest, he was very close friend of Mahatma Gandhi. But he was no colleague of Gandhiji in the freedom struggle at any point of time. As far as the attitude of Church concerning the freedom struggle of 'Heathen India', noted Gandhian-Christian J.C.Kumarappa's observation that Church had always been an arm of Western Imperialism is far more opt. In case of the so-called persecution of Christian missionaries in India, isolated events have been bloated up, religious conjured into them and then spread across the globe by the Church for reasons , one suspects, purely political. The gruesome murder of Staines itself offers the proof. The 300-pages Wardha Commission report clearly states that the incident was a stray criminal act with no religious body behind it. The killing of two Catholic priests is again something that has nothing to do with the so-called persecution of Christians by Hindu nationalists. These killings were done by the Baptist Church sponsored outlawed NLFT terrorists. An ordinary keyboard search in the BBC website will reveal the NLFT-Church connections. Sri.Gurumurthi has already given a complete picture of yet another case of 'violence against Christians' in the columns of this very newspaper. He has shown how a crime in which perpetrators themselves included Christians wasprojected outside as a case of persecution against minorities. In fact, such incidents happen even in countries like US of A against Hindus also. For example, Feroze Mody a US resident of Indian origin, was beaten to death in Jersey inthe 80s for being a 'dot head' (a derogratory name for Indians for applying Tilak) Charanjit S Aujia, a US resident of Indian origin was murdered in the liquor shop where he worked, on December 4 1998 in Jackson, Mississippi -shot in the back of the head by six deputies of Sheriff. No US based Hindu organization has made a story of systematic persecution of Hindus - based on these isolated events. The simple fact is that: There is no organised-motivated persecution of Christians (say like the Goan inquisition against Hindus) in India despite the Church's own fantasy of its persecution. Now top the last point namely the Church and its missionaries spreading calumnies against Swami Vivekananda. In many of the American magazines and journals of the time one finds Christian missionaries denouncing Swami Vivekananda as 'liar', 'a stage actor' and as 'telling half truths'. The Christian Literature Society for India published in 1897 a booklet titled 'Swami Vivekananda and his guru' in which Swamiji was described as a man ignorant of true religion and certain destruction was predicted for his followers. Let me quote Swamiji's own words. In a letter written to a Chennai friend dated June 28 1894, he wrote, "...On the other hand everything that is said by Christians in India is sedulously gathered by missionaries and regularly published and they go from door to door to make my friends give me up". <img alt="Papal sins against Humanity" src="http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/b33234f120.jpg"align=left>Regarding the other 'malicious slanders' against the Church, with respect to the genocide in Croatia Papal collaboration with Fascist regimes during World War II, spreading pseudo-scientific racist theories for evangelical purposes etc. there exist voluminous data to substantiate each one of these claims. What often the Church in a later fit of Mea Culpa calls as her sins, the civilised humanity regards as crimes against humanity.
-S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Story of Two Fraudulent Quotes

1. Harun Yahya quotes Futuyma

Harun Yahya is an Islamic scholar who specializes in criticizing the science of Evolution. He is often presented in Islamic conferences as a scholar who has disproved evolution in a ‘scientific way’. I was blissfully unaware of this eminent theologian and was writing science articles in the weekly Tamil webzine called Thinnai.com, when some Muslim brothers insisted that the Kaffirs like me should read Harun Yahya to clear off all misconceptions about Islam – particularly how Islam is scientific as against the unscientific atheistic discredited theory of evolution. Deciding to get enlightened, I visited the site recommended by the fellow writer in the webzine. The link had a downloadable book. 'Tell me about the Creation' is a 40 page book with 70 references. Once I read the book I was fully convinced that it should have had some divine inspiration – for such monumental ignorance is beyond ordinary human ability. The book is full of errors, half-truths, misinterpretations and misquotes. Here I give a single example that will suffice.Harun Yahya says:
The sudden origination of living beings on the Earth is proof that they were created by God. Evolutionist biologist Douglas Futuyma admits this fact: Organisms either appeared on the earth fully developed or they did not. If they did not, they must have developed from preexisting species by some process of modification. If they did appear in a fully developed state, they must indeed have been created by some omnipotent intelligence.
[Tell me about Creation, Page. 16. Goodword Books 2001- New Delhi]

Anyone reading the above passage would think that Prof. Futuyma, definitely an authority in evolution, has accepted (note the word ‘admits’ before the quote) the literal interpretation of the creation account shared by Abrahamic religions – as expounded by fundamentalists (in this case Islamic fundamentalists). Also note that the subsequent quote is presented with a full stop. Now let us just see what exactly Prof.Futuyma has really said:
"Creation and evolution, between them, exhaust the possible explanations for the origin of living things. Organisms either appeared on the earth fully developed or they did not. If they did not, they must have developed from pre-existing species by some process of modification. If they did appear in a fully developed state, they must have been created by some omnipotent intelligence, for no natural process could possibly form inanimate molecules into an elephant or a redwood tree in one step. If species were created out of nothing in their present form, they would bear within them no evidence of a former history; if they are the result of historical development, any evidence of history is evidence of evolution." (Science on Trial: The Case for Evolution, New York: Pantheon Books, 1983. Page. 197)

Where Yahya puts a full stop in his selected and vivisected quote, a comma exists in the original quote. In fact Futuyma decries the simplistic picture of evolution the creationists provide stating how evolution can produce complex living organisms from simple inanimate molecules as if in one step. In subsequent pages Futuyma goes on to give proofs for the presence of the evidences of long developmental histories in existing organisms. Yet Futuyma is quoted as admitting the presence of an omnipotent intelligence. Such is the honesty of Harun Yahya who is presented by the faithful to us Kaffirs as an instance of impeccable scholarship inspired by Koran.

Interlude
Now note that such high voltage anti-science propaganda emanates from New Delhi which abounds in self-declared warriors for secularism. None seems to have even taken notice of this nonsense India has been exporting to the whole world. It is indeed an irony of fact that the so-called secularists in India are actually pseudo secularists. The so-called secularists in India – the rabidly Marxist leftwing scholars- actually are hands in gloves with Islamic fundamentalist and Evangelists. They see Hindu way of life and culture as their first enemy and are ready to go to any extent for destroying it. Thus very recently in the glare of whole media Arundathi Roy – a militant left pamphleteer who resonated with American racist David Duke regarding the September 11 tragedy – justified Jehadi terrorists in Kashmir massacring minority Hindus. Another leading leftwing luminary –almost a cult figure in left circles is Prof. Romila Thapar. Here I show how she also indulged in selective quoting and presenting half truths to depict Indian nationalists as racists with upper caste vested interests.

Prof.Romila Thapar quotes Keshab Sen

Here is an extract from the transcript of the lecture 'The Aryan Question Revisited' delivered by the eminent historian on 11th October 1999, at the Academic Staff College, JNU.

"On the Indian nationalist side it could be argued that the upper caste Indian who has always been regarded as "the" Indian, that was the creator of the Indian civilization is Aryan and is related in fact to the coloniser, to the British. And there is one statement which I am very fond of quoting. I quote it in everything that I write, which is Keshab Chandra Sen talking about the coming of the British to India being the coming together of 'parted cousins' which in a sense gives you an idea of part of the reason why there is the interest in this theory."
Now this implies the following:

That Indian nationalists were very conscious of their upper-caste mentality and they wanted to rationalise it.
That Indian nationalists wanted to identify themselves racially with the colonial administrators.
And that Keshab Chandra Sen is a typical representative of such nationalists.

Is Keshab Chandra Sen a representative Indian nationalist? A social reformer, who 'very nearly converted completely to Christianity' (according to Britannica Encyclopaedia on the web) is not exactly a representative Indian nationalist. In fact, Sen cannot be considered a nationalist at all and was a social reformer (a failed one at that). And did he say those words our eminent historian quotes to rationalise his own superior caste position? Definitely not. Originally a Brahmo Samaj member, Sen even organised inter-caste marriages. How conveniently our historian, a respected one in leftist circles whose cult figure status is rivaled only by Noam Chomsky, presents objective facts!

Now the next question is did really the Indian nationalists identify themselves racially with the colonial administrators? We know that a section of Indians did want to identify themselves with colonial administrators, copying their manners and dissociating themselves with anything Indian. We can find such specimens even today. But those sections were not the nationalists. In fact, the nationalist school saw them with utter contempt they deserved then (and deserve now). And nationalists saw a perversion in their racial rationalising of their behaviour. The quote below is a scathing criticism on these attitudes by none other than Swami Vivekananda who can rightly be considered as the patron-saint of Indian nationalism:

When I see Indians behaving like Europeans, the thought comes to my mind, perhaps, they feel ashamed to own their nationality and kinship with the ignorant poor, illiterate, down-trodden people of India! Again the Westerners have now taught us that those stupid, ignorant low caste millions of India clad only in loin cloths are non-Aryans! They are therefore no more our kith and kin! (Complete works of Swami Vivekananda, Vol.IV P.479)
In the talk extract of Romila Thappar, one can notice yet another association - that Indian nationalists consider as 'Indian' only the 'upper caste' as 'the Indian'. But one can see in the Swamiji's quote just mentioned above, a scorn towards those sections of Indian society which considers itself a class or perhaps even a race apart from the toiling millions of this nation. So we know that there did exist a section of Indians mostly drawn from the so-called upper-caste who identified themselves with fair-skinned colonial administrators and justifying those tendencies with Aryan race theory. But, the important distinction is that Indian nationalists were opposed to this tendency; they scorned it; they never identified only the upper-caste as 'the Indian'.
Perhaps Vivekananda is an exception; Perhaps such nationalists like Sri Aurobindo did hold the upper-caste superiority; after all Sri Aurobindo is a nationalist who did use the word Aryan often. So perhaps Prof. Romila Thapar is correct after all?
Sri Aurobindo during his vigorously nationalist period of life had written about caste prejudices existing in the Hindu community. Did he rationalise it or accept it? Commenting on none other than Lok Manya Thilak's opinion that the prevailing idea of social inequality is doing immense evil Sri Aurobindo states:

The Nationalist does not quarrel with the past, but he insists on its transformation, the transformation of individual or class autocracy into the autocracy, self-rule or Swaraj, of the nation and of the fixed hereditary anti-democratic caste organisation into the pliable self-adapting, democratic distribution of function at which socialism aims.(Sri Aurobindo, Early Political writings, 'The Unhindu Spirit of Caste Rigidity', Bande Mataram,September 20,1907)
In that very same article, Sri Aurobindo further points out that Indian Nationalism must by its inherent tendencies move towards the removal of unreasoning and arbitrary distinctions and inequalities. And what did Sri Aurobindo think about the Aryan Invasion theory itself? Prophetically Sri Aurobindo talks of 'most far-reaching political, social or pseudo-scientific conclusions' if we continue building on these 'falsehood' of 'hazardous speculations' (Sri Aurobindo in his 'Secret of the Vedas').

Even Veer Savarkar who did not object the Aryan race theory, not because he accepted it out of any ideological vested interest but because he considered himself not scholarly competent to criticise it (a remarkable intellectual honesty for an ideologue), was a very severe critic of caste system and food taboos. He not only organised inter-community marriages but went a step further and built temples where Dalits could participate in the services, emulating the lesson another great spiritual savant of South India Sri Narayan Guru had taught.Scandalised upper caste conservatives derided Savarkar as 'Bangi babu'.

Down South we have the great nationalist poet Bharathi. He too considered the talk of Aryan-Dravidian racial divide as nothing but a colonial-missionary conspiracy aimed at dividing the Indian people. He too held very progressive views on caste system which he abhorred. To him too the word 'Arya' was not only non-racist but a term befitting the Tamil language itself.

Now we come to the very crucial question which is this: If such is the scenario presented by the facts as regard to the Indian nationalist reaction to the Aryan race theory then why does Prof. Romila Thapar present such a distorted anti-Indian picture?
Is it because 'The Theory' necessitates that Indian nationalists should be only petty-Bourgeois who cared not for the toiling proletariat and looked after their own class interests? Is it because 'The Theory' also demands that such concern for proletariat should historically dawn only with 'The Party'?
Unverified and unchecked this out of context quote would have been planted to make the scenario fit the theory and would have become a fact and enter the text books. And soon our children too would have been taught that Indian nationalists just wanted to safeguard their high caste social superiority by rationalising it through Aryan race theory and by relating themselves to the colonial administrators. The whole process in itself is not different from the Piltdown fossil hoax where some pranksters planted a cooked-up fossil supposedly to justify their pet version of the theory of evolution.

Now note the similarity of presenting fraudulent quotes and half-truth as indulged in by pseudo-secular Marxist Taliban scholar Prof. Romila Thapar, and pan-Islamic fundamentalist Harun Yahya. Given such kinship between the Indian Left and Islamic Taliban any wonder Harun Yahya started his propaganda of falsehood right at New Delhi and went on unchallenged?
-S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Post script to Harun Yahya - What Prof.Futuyma says

PS: Before i could get hold of Prof.Futuyma's book, to verify the quote i e-mailed Prof.Futuyma and he was kind enough to send a reply despite his busy schedule. Here is the relevant portion from his e-mail:
To: "Aravindan Neelakandan" <hindooheathen@lycos.com>
Subject: Re: A Misquote from your book
Date: Tue, 9 Nov 2004 11:36:39 -0500

Dear Mr. Neelakandan,

Of course I do not support creationism; the quotation is from a book I wrote specifically to counteract creationism. The quotation is accurate, but of course the final phrase is preceded by "IF they did appear in a fully dveloped state". The "IF" premise is of course contrary to fact: organisms did not appear first in a fully developed state, and an entire chapter of the book is devoted to evidence from th paleontological record that organisms evolved by stages from earlier
organisms with different forms. I appreciate the efforts you will be making on behalf of evolutionary science in your country....
Sincerely yours,

Douglas J. No prizes for guessing if it got published.

This is with reference to the response of Prof.Romila Thapar to Dr. Subramanian Swamy (March 22).

It is true that in 1966, Prof.Thapar came to the conclusion that,
‘Aryan is in fact a linguistic group indicating a speech group of Indo-European origin, and is not a ethnic term’.
Yet she maintained in her subsequent narrative of the history of ancient India the very same racial interpretations of Vedas. She writes in her ‘History of India’ (Vol. I, Penguin, 1990-reprint),
“Aryans treated the Dasas as beyond the social pale, probably owing to a fear of the Dasas and the even greater fear that assimilation with them would lead to a loss of Aryan identity. Ostensibly the distinction was largely that of colour, the Dasas being dark and of an alien colour.”
Regarding the very same thing as early as 1914, Sri Aurobindo had this to say after going through the original Vedic texts himself, (not relying upon European translators),
“It did not take long to see that the Vedic indications of a racial division between Aryans and Dasyus were of a far flimsier character than I had supposed.”

In 1996 researcher Hans Henrich Hock (University of Illinois) examining the evidence for interpreting caste in terms of skin colour, in the Vedic society stated that
the textual evidence for interpreting words meaning 'dark, black' and 'light, white' as referring to skin color is quite uncertain.
It seems it is the indigenous Indian readings of Vedas rather than the shifting stands of our eminent historian that is being vindicated by the results of ongoing researches.
S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Terrorism

On Terrorism

These letters span a period of almost four years during which time Jehadi terrorism is at its manifest worst. Ritualistic massacres of Amarnath pilgrims, September 11 that killed about 250 Indians in a single day followed by a barbaric attack on Indian parliament and Congress(I) then the main opposition party shamelessly opposing POTA in covert support to Jehadis - these are the events which prompted the writing of these letters which were published in The New Indian Express (Madurai edition).

Attack on the families of BSF

Sir:This refers to the attack on BSF convoy on 23rd of May by Jehadis. On 23rd May a blast killed 33 Indians 16 of whom were the family members of BSF Jawans, including women and children. Reports say that a blood stained greeting card was recovered from blast site. It was a well wishing card from a son to his father. The retired eminences who grace the human rights brigade, sincerely went into a fast of silence putting to shame even Mahatma's monkeys. Since the Congress-PDP coalition at J&K extended its 'healing touch' to Jehadis there has been an increase in mass killing of people. As KPS Gill points out,'over the winter months of October 2003 through March 2004, there has been an average of more than 165 terrorism-related fatalities per month in J&K'. Jehad has today acquired a new dimension now that they target families and children. Whether in Akshardam or Raghunath Mandir or now the attack on BSF convoy, the message is clear. No matter what rosy picture the apologists of Islamic creed paint of the term Jehad, Jehad has been for centuries and still continues to be an inhuman war against Indian way of life, culture and values. It will not rest till the last child brought up in Indian culture is destroyed. Silence of pseudo-secularists over Jehadi barbarism proves that pseudo-secularism is only a preparing ground for the darkness of a medieval creed of violence that is to embrace the whole of nation. Those Hindus who still want to hang on to their culture, well, let them prepare themselves to live in refugee camps in a fate worse than death.
Yours truely,
S.Aravindan Neelakandan [Sent to The New Indian Express

Minorities massacred in Pakistan by Jehadis
Sir: This is with reference to the report that 18 Christians were masssacred inside their place of worship in Pakistan. This is not an isolated event but yet another instance of Pakistan's continuation of being an ideal Islamic state - an officially declared 'Nizam -i-Mustafa' (Order of the prophet). Jinnah explained what he called the vital principles of Islam in the words 'Muslims are a nation'. Apart from splinter groups which indulge in such inhuman terrorism the Government of Pakistan itself acts as a terrorist state. A good example is the death sentence that is being given by Additional Sessions Judge, Islamabad, Safdar Hussain Malik, to a lecturer of physiology and a secular-humanist thinker Dr.Yunis Shakih. His crime is that he asked the simple question: how Muhammed and his parents were Muslims before Quran is believed to have been revealed to Muhammed whom Muslims believe as their prophet. Hindu population in Pakistan has dwindled from 25 percent in 1940 to less than 2 percent by 2000 providing very clear case of religicide. Pan-Arab fascism whose euphemism is called today as Islam has also destroyed the flourishing regional languages like Punjabi, Pushtun and Baluch. Speaking or teaching these languages are not encouraged and considered divisive in Pakistan. All non-Sunni sects of Islam are also persecuted violently and even declared non-Muslims. Ahmedis for example have been traeated so badly and their places of worship have often been destroyed. Running as a subtext in all these events spanning from the very inception of Pakistan is an existential dilemma which is inherent in Pakistanbased on the wrong assumption that Muslims are a nation. This dilemma is expressed very clearly in the words of a Pakistani intellectual Waheed-uz-Zaman, (in his Editor's note to 'Quest for Identity')"...If the Arabs, the Turks, the Iranians give up Islam the Arabs yet remain Arabs, the Turks remain Turks the Iranians remain Iranians, but what do we remain if we give up Islam?" Hence is there any wonder at what happens to the minorities in Pakistan with the state self-declaring itself as an ideological state of believers waging wars on non-believers in the spirit of Quaranic injunction to wage Jihad on Kaffirs and kill them? (Al Quran: IX.5). An interesting link on the relation of Islam to terrorism as seen by some leading Muslim thinkers can be found at the website: www.secularislam.org , even as apologists of Islam deny the role that Islam has as a religion in shaping the Jehadi mindset. S.Aravindan Neelakandan[The New Indian Express: 5-11-2001]

Attack on Indian Parliament
Sir: This is with reference to yet another barbaric attack on one of the symbols of global humanity - the Indian Parliament. However, thanks to the sacrifice of our brave Jawans the attempts have been repelled and barbarian terrorists have been killed. It is time we all Indians understand the kind of threat our culture and values face from these inhuman monsters, whose ideological breeding grounds are the medieval nurseries of hate from across the border and which are also growing now inside India. Worse than the anthrax germs are the strains of Jehadi mindset. All Indians should support all possible measures to eliminate this virus of the mind once and for all for the safety of our nation, culture and future of our children. We have only this nation and without this nation our children may end up in the advertisements of International refugee organisations. So the Government should act now. What can be done? Time has come for India to act bravely and decisively. India should declare Pakistan a terrorist state. Anti-terrorist corrdination should be achieved on a global level and lobbying should be done everywhere against against terrorist states and close corrdination should be sought with US based Zionist organizations. It is high time we realize the fact that in the eyes of the barbaric descendants of Timur and Gaznavi Indians and their way of life are enemies then and enemies now. S.Aravindan Neelakandan [Published in the New Indian Express-14-12-2001]

Sep-11 attack

Sir: This is with reference to the cowardly terrorist attacks on the main civilian centres in the United States presumably done by Jehadi terrorists. As a nation which has suffered the same kind of barbaric attacks on pilgrims (at Amarnath), on hospitals (at Coimbatore) on financial institutions (at Mumbai) we clearly understand and share the grief of all those families affected by these acts -to describe which the word barbaric is too mild a term. The BBC footage of the whole tragedy showed scenes of jubliant 'palestine' teenagers and official, some Arab states justifying in a veiled manner (no pun intended) the attacks with such terms as 'legitimate anger of Islamic people', 'fruits of American actions' etc.The Jehadi mindset has hardly evolved from its inception over the last 15 centuries. The greatest advantage of these Jehads is not their bravery (which they obviously lack , hence the civilian targets), but the basic human decency of their opponents. They know Indians will not bomb a hospital in retaliation; they know that despite Yasser Arafat urging Saddam Hussien to use chemical weapons against Israel, Jews will never use chemical weapons against Palestinians. Can the same be said of US now? Perhaps Jehadis have could have triggered an opponent who in fury may match their own Jehad standards in retribution. The best way to prevent, combat and eliminate this terrorist menace that is plaguing democracy today is to view these terrorist acts as a war waged by a fundamentalist ideology on humanism and its ideals. It is a war on all values of freedom and knowledge we have cherished. As the former Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Barak put it in a no-nonsense way: terrorism can be destroyed only if we combat it in a pre-emptive manner. This is particularly important for India given the fact that some of the pseudo-secular parties have even fielded the serial bomb-blast accused in the coming Mumbai municipal elections. It is high time that all the forces of humanism and democracy should come together to eliminate once and for all the barbaric forces of expansionist creeds.-S.Aravindan Neelakandan [Published in the New Indian Express 13-09-2001]

How should India react to Jehadi Terror ?
Sir: This is with reference to the twin articles that appeared in The New Indian Express issues 'Bring out the evidence' by Kuldip Nayyar (Dec 17, 2001) and '...Act like Israel does' by Sri.S.Gurumurthy (Dec 18, 2001). The former artcile shifts the whole burden of evidence on the Government of India while the latter exhorts the Government to take action to protect people of India in the new global era of Jehadi terrorism. Interestingly Mr.Nayyar's article is worded in a style indistinguishable from the words of General 'Perverse' Musharraf that 'gentle man' who mutilated the bodies of our Jawans during the Kargil conflict. Over these two articles which articulate two exactly opposite points of view, let us ponder over some facts:Lashkar-e-Toiba is the single largest suicide squad running Jehadi group. Its recruitment and financing happens mainly through the internet. And who hosts the L-e-Toiba website. An ordinary WHOIS search for the domain name registration of the website (in 2001 - since this revelation it has changed into unknown-AN) shows that it was hoisted by Department of Super Computing and Defence Automation of Pakistan. The US-Afghan confrontation is qualitatively different from India countering Pakistan-Jehadi nexus. It is very akin to Israel facing Arab-Palestinian terrorist nexus. Israel is a country which is surrounded by hostile Arab states which do not even revognise Israel's very right to exist. The same is the case with India where Pakistan, Bangladesh and China want to see India disintegrate. But unlike Israel, in India our pseudo-secularist politician who sees alienating Indian people for the sake of his/her votebank politics as a political strategy has actively aidedthe agents of anti-Indian forces from across the border. We have across our border a theocratic nuclear rogue state which sends in mad suicide bombers to attack our Parliament and we have another totalitarian state which gulps down its dragon throat complete cultures and races like Tibet. The fact is as far as Pakistan is concerned the whole nation is a terrorist factor or rather a terrorist madrassa.. And people like Mr.Nayyar supply us with secularist opium so that the sheep will not realize the real state till the butcher's knife lands on their necks.
We should emulate Israel and in fact as Dr. Abdul Kalam told Mr.Pritish Nandy in a net interview our media too should emulate their Israeli counterparts by highlighting the bravery of our Jawans and the bravery of our citizens. The blood of our Jawans and the countless deaths of our brothers and sisters who fell victims to bullets and bombs of terrorists from the caves of Amarnath to the streets of Coimbatore should not go unavenged. It is a blood debt we all Indian citizens carry in our heart to give back to Pakistan and Jehadis. In fact I find many good, humanistic and holistic trends and values in Western civililzation and I see Darwin's Day as one symbolising the good and beautiful in the Western culture. This letter was written to The New Indian Express on Feb 11 2004.

Sir:

This is with reference to objection by some culturalorganizations to the celebration of Valentine's day.The use of violence to stop the Valentine day celebrations is as much a sign of cultural weakness as the sudden intentional and intensive popularization of Valentine day in India is a sign of a cultural arrogance. It is indeed a tragedy that St.Valentine a pathetic Christian substitute for a pagan Cupid has today become the patron saint of consumerist cultural aggression. The high-pitched screams of intellectuals against tearing down the card displays became the silence of petrified mummies when sixteen Hindus including a three year old girl were shot dead this January by the Christian Al-Qaeda NLFT, for defying their fatwa not to celebrate the heathen festival of Makara Sankranthi. It is an urgent imperative that India becomes a knowledge-intensive society. Valentine's day helps us achieve absolutely nothing in this direction. But every Indian festival does. Then why this manipulated and built-up craze for Valentine's day? Of course we should be open to all things noble from everywhere. On the very same February falls 'Darwin's day'. It is a day on which humanists world over celebrate the ascent of humanity from being mindless puppets in the hands ofa cruel Creator into being a beautiful strand with its own power of volition in the web of billions of years of organic evolution. Why don't we popularise Darwin's day (Feb 12) in India?. In the West today, Paganism, Humanism and Wicca are reclaiming the festivals they lost to organised creeds(like the cyclic Winter harvest festival celebrating the Solar glory becoming linear event-specific festival like Christmas). Of the major religions only Hinduism and Judaism have maintained their celebrations with all the regional diversities. We as a nation celebrate light and life, soil and sun, rivers and the trees, knowledge and work. Astronomical events which our ancients celebrated as important to the cycles of this planet are becoming popular again among humanists everywhere. Such being the scenario must we celebrate a consumerist obscurantist non-event to fill the coffers of some MNCs?Yours trulyS.Aravindan

SIMI Ban and anti-Hindu media bias

After post-Godhra Hindu-Muslim riots the media went on with an aggressive anti-Hindu propaganda. One such act was the support for SIMI that was expressed by pseudo-secular leftist intellectuals. This letter sent to The New Indian Express in support of the views expressed by columnist Sri.Gurumurthi in his article in the New Indian Express dated June 2004 after Ishrat incident.

Sir:

This is with reference to the article on the 'secular' media by Sri.S.Gurumurthy (TNIE, June 20).The secularist media as well as the secularist polity taking up the cause of anti-Hindu pro-Islamic terrorists is not a new phenomenon. As Jehadi terrorists started ethnic cleansing of Hindus in Kashmir, we saw reports denying the truth of ethnic cleansing. Today every one knows that the worst case of ethnic cleansing in the history of independent India has been that of Kashmiri Pandits. Even a biased institution like the election commission under Lyndogh of Joker vintage, has documented the return of more than 90% of 2002 Gujarat riot victims. But Pandits have been left for decades in the slums of New Delhi to face a slow and sure ethnic extinction. Our secularist institutions of Justice and democracy played the real Nero. We saw how effectively the secularist media ignored Pandits and portrayed the terrorists as 'misguided youths'. The same is the case with Hindu victims of the Christian al-Qaeda NLFT nurtured by Baptist Church and encouraged by the imported Congress leadership. Yet another case in point is the SIMI ban. On September 27, 2001, the NDA government banned SIMI - Students Islamic Movement of India. On September 28, 2001, Communist Party of India (Marxist) questioned the ban. Not to be left behind anti-Hindu Congress too vehemently questioned the ban. Media too portrayed the ban as ‘controversial’. Soon Maharashtra police investigating the cowardly bomb blasts in the ladies compartment of Mumbai trains (March 13,2003) discovered and announced the SIMI link in the bomb blasts. Then on September 25, 2003 Sayeed Khan, former president of the SIMI ‘s Mumbai unit revealed in an interview to rediff.com that not only SIMI had the presence of Inter-Services Intelligence operatives, but also that its top leaders were aware of it. Yet, it should be noted that the secularist politicians, intellectuals and English media went overboard regarding the ban. Today we see the same drama repeated in the case of Ishrat and co. Clearly, when it comes to anti-Hindu Jehadism, the axis of evil in India made of Macaulaites and Marxists, has created its own counterpart of the notorious Pakistani ISI - Indian Secularist Intellectuals.

Yours truly,

S.Aravindan Neelakandan

Is Cloning research wrong? ...

This was sent on 03 December 2001 and was subsequently published in The New Indian Express (Madurai) with the last line edited out.

Sir:

This is with reference to the controversy raging over the issue of human cloning. From the cloning of frogs in 1950s to the cloning of sheep by Ian Wilmut in 1996,we the human species have come a long way in our cloning experiment. In a waythe human cloning experiments can be a great boon to developing countries like India. As James Watson the co-discoverer of DNA's molecular structure pointed out,as early as 1971 in the article "Moving Towards Clonal Man",this is a technology that is no longer the preserve of superpowers. Developing nations can have access to the technology and move in fast into this fast accelarating field.

To those who oppose cloning on the grounds that humans should not tread into the territory of God, it should be said if God is in control of such things He surely is not doing an efficient job. 40 to 50 percent of spontaneous abortions involve chromosomally abnormal embryos. About 40 percent of all infant mortality is due to genetic disease;30 percent of pediatric and 10 percent of adult patients require hospital admission because of genetic disorders. Medical investigators estimate that genetic defects are present in 10 percent of all adults. And for a developing country like India this can cost crores of money interms of medical overheads. Fortunately in Indian traditions we are taught to see our destiny as a result of our own actions (Karma). Despite the truth or falsity of this unprovable speculation it allows us to see the human life as a struggle which can be changed for the better through human efforts itself. (Who else can undo our Karma than ourselves?) We and our actions are the masters of our destiny and not any personal God up above. Given the uncertainity and inefficiency of nature's random germplasm transmission mechanism there is nothing wrong in humans eliminating the possible problems such a chancy mechanism may have on an unborn child. This is not to say there are no ethical problems to human cloning. Such scenarios have been extensively discussed by such varying authorities like Aldous Huxley (in his 'Brave New World') to the proceedings of World Bioethics Institute, established in 1969. Also our detailed study of evolution and extinctions has made us wise to the importance ofupholding the genetic diversity in any population. So even as, we humans decide to play a more efficient and humane God, we are also extremely conscious of our ethics, future and civilization. One can contrast this against the claims of personal God who in his boasting of his power (and his utter ignorance of basic genetics) declares that he created such defective germplasm out of mud, clay or a single drop of fluid!

Yours truly,

S.Aravindan

The anti-Indian Pseudo-secular Talibans

In November 2001 again a controversy erupted over deletion of certain objectionable statements made in the NCERT history text books regarding Guru Tegh Bahadur. In response to a highly biased report that appeared in the Indian media this letter was sent to The New Indian Express on 29 November 2001. No rewards to guesses on whether this letter was published.

Sir:

This is with reference to the controversy that has erupted again over the change in the history syllabus of the NCERT. The opposition has charged the government with 'Talibanisation' of the education. And fears have been created in the minds of all people with regard to the direction in which the education of this nation moves. But much of this fear has been created through mere propaganda and is not attested by facts. It seems oneschool of historians who hitherto had their way in all academic institutions and who changed these institutions into mere propaganda centres of their ideology, now find it hard to see that alternative views of history are also being considered. This leftist school of historians have a notorious track record of intentional distortion of facts and misrepresenting events. If one just goes through the history books written for children by the leftists, will one understand who indulges in 'Talibanisation' or 'Stalinisation' of education. A good example is the history text book for school children published by West Bengal government which has no mention about Bankim Chandra who gave the mantra of Vande Mataram;has one line on Swami Vivekananda and forty two lines on Karl Marx! Also always as a rule Hinduism has beenportrayed as a religion of exploitation. For example, a Class III student learns in West Bengal that'(Hindu) priests devised and got busy creating laws and rituals for worship. That is how scriptures werewritten...Gradually they established themselves at the top of the society." Text books for class V have this to say, "...after the Revolution in Russia the first exploitation-free society was established."
Given the fact that this is the kind of ideological stuffing these 'historians' want to happen to the mindsof the next generation, they have also gleefully accepted the Aryan Invasion theory propagated by them issionaries and imposed on us by colonial rulers.
These 'historians' have often contributed almost nothing for the enhancement of our knowledge with regard to empirical data about our past heritage but they specialize in selectively presenting second-hand data with dubious interpretations to fit the great Marxist revelation. In this aspect they are no different from fake astrologers who also indulge in pseudo-scientific interpretations with selective data. Such is the nature of secularist text books and their authors.
The NCERT has done well to delete the derogatory remarks made by the Marxist pseudo-historian SathishChandra on Guru Tegh Bagadur. And a quote from the RSS book for child education (Bharatha Bharathi of Rashtrothana Sahitya) will show how Hinduthvavathis treat histroy with more objectivity and a vision at nation building, harmonising different communities:
"Love for motherland, clear thinking, courage, firmness and loyalty were embodied in Ashfaqulla Khan, in a very great measure. He deserves to be remembered and cherished by all Indians for his noble qualities. It is the birthright and good fortune of every Indian to serve India. To whatever religion a man may belong his first and highest duty is to serve the country - this was the lesson Ashfaq wrote in the hearts of all people with his blood. May his ideal and his example shine for ever in our hearts!"
Such is the nature of communal, fascist, Talibanised, saffronised text books of Sangh. And for those who in their bliss of secularist history may wonder who this Ashfaqulla Khan is, he was a Pathan patriot whose love for India made him kiss the hangman's noose and he was a role model and inspiration for martyrs like Bhagat Singh who also joined his organization later. Also if elminating the Aryan invasion theory is an indicator of saffronization or Talibanisation here are a list of a few institutions which are suffering from the saffronisation: University of Wisconsin, University of Coloumbia, Case Western University, State University of New York - all these universities have as professors Indological scholars who question the Aryan invasion theory and the last one has a standard text book which rejects the invasion model and goes for an indigenous Vedic people theory. So the so-called saffronisation is much better for the mental health of our children and for the harmonious realtions between different communities of India, than the Stalinised text books hitherto issued by Romilla Tappar et al,the Talibans of secularism.Yours truly,S.Aravindan

Pseudo-secular Rumour Mills on Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam

In the year 2001 Dr.Kalam resigned from his position as the principal scientidic adviser and rumour mills started working. On 15 Nov 2001 a writer Mr.James wrote a letter to the editor of The New Indian Express suggesting that Dr.Kalam resigned because of communal anti-Muslim BJP. The letter below was sent as a reaction to that letter and was subsequently published in The New Indian Express [Madurai edition].

Sir:
This is with reference to a letter dated 15-Nov-2001 regarding the retirement of Dr.APJ.Abdul Kalam as the principal scientific adviser to the prime minister.

The learned writer has mentioned about 'some people' seeking to see communalism in Dr.Kalam's retirement. It is really very shocking to know that there exist 'some people' with such twisted perception and who seek to see anything and every thing in terms of communalism. One can be quite sure that the learned writer of that letter does not share the view of those 'some people' he has mentioned therein. Hence he will also be happy to know certain facts regarding the same. When Gujral government announced Bharat Ratna for Dr.Kalam, the then BJP vice president and senior MP K.R.Malkani described it as the 'only sensible and the best thing' done by the Gujral government.Time and again Dr.Kalam stressed the need for India to end its nuclear ambiguity and declare itself as a nuclear power state. When
successive governments refused this demand of Dr.Kalam it was the BJP government which materialised it. Soon after Pokharan, the student wing of RSS,ABVP held its annual national meet at Mumbai. Dr.Kalam who could not attend the meet in person sent it a very long address in which he asked the students to keep up their Swadeshi spirit. Also it is the BJP government which specially created the post of Principal Science advisor to PM for Dr.Kalam which is a very right thing as Dr.Kalam is a self-made genius and a role model for all Indians.Dr.Kalam himself is above such narrow sectarian considerations. He is the quintessential pan-Indian. A Ram Bakht, a gifted Veena player and also a devout Muslim who never misses his Namaz a day (as told in an interview he gave to Pritish Nandy, available at www.rediff.com)Dr.Kalam is also a man of high character and integrity. So instead taking his own words about there being no difference with the government at face value, there is no reason why we should consider the rumours spread by 'some people'.However by the same token will those 'some people' also conclude that as the BJP government sacked a high caste Hindu and made a Christian the chief of Indian navy, it is anti-Hindu and pro-Christian? Clearly reading communalism in these things reflect more about one's own twisted mindset much in need of repair than the events themselves. And I am confident the enlightened writer of the aforesiad letter does not share such a narrow mindset.
Yours truly,

S.Aravindan

Some 'historians' decry Vedic studies...

This letter was sent to The New Indian Express on 9th November 2001 in response to the news item that appeared on 8th Nov.2001 that some historians have decried NCERT syllabus.

Sir:

This is with reference to the news item that some 'historians' have decried the NCERT syllabus as anti-Muslim and anti-Dravidian (Nov.8 2001).

Time and again the theories of these historians have been proved wrong. Nevertheless it is interesting to see that for these historians the sun continues to rotate the earth. Their scant idea of south Indian history and culture, their total ignorance of Vedas and Indian philosophical systems, their utter contempt for anything Indian are all revealed intheir statements. First of all they talk about Sangh Parivar making Aryans an indigenous race. It is wrong. Time and again all eminent Indian scholars of Vedas have stressed that Aryan is not a race term. Unlike arm chair theoreticians, field archaeologists like Dr. Jim Shaffer,Dr. B.B.Lal (who excavated Kalibangan), Dr.S.R.Rao (the discoverer of the submerged urban remains of the supposedly mythical Dwaraka) to name a few have all agreed upon the fact that there has been no such thing as an Aryan invasion. However compelled by their own ideological vested interests our 'leftist' historians perpetuate the myth of Aryan invasion. For them to perpetuate this myth, it is also a must that most Indians remain ignorant of Vedas so there is no wonder over the fact that they are hyper-worried these days about the promotion of Vedic studies which are the common heritage of all Indians. Because it should be remembered that one of the most respected medieval Vedic scholar was the Mughal prince and martyr at the hands of bigot Aurangazeb, Dara Shukoh! None less than a person like Raymond Pannickar an eminent Catholic theologian has stressed the need of Vedas for the spirit of modern man. Great social reformers and spiritul savants like Swami Vivekananda, Sri Narayan Guru stressed the need for the study of Vedas to empower the masses. Scientists like Erwin Schrodinger,V.I.Vernadsky, Dr.Carl Sagan discovered in Vedas inspiration and were enchanted by its spiritual insights. Yet the very same Vedas are denied to a large sections of the Indian society. The NDA government should in fact be praised for its efforts to correct this historical wrong at least now. Also Vedic Mathematics is more and more accepted by many educationists as a valuable educational tool to teach children mathematics. The problem is not with Vedic mathematics but with the political arithmetic these leftist 'scholars' are indulging in. A word about the anti-Dravidian aspect of the syllabus: here is a partial list of persons more competent to talk about Indian culture than the leftist seminar wallahs. These great men rejected the idea that there is a separate Dravidian culture: Swami Vivekananda
, Subramanya Bharathi(poet and scholar in both Sanskrit and Tamil), Sri Aurobindo (who had mastered the so-called Indo European languages like Latin as well as Sanskrit, Bengali and Tamil), Dr. Ambedkar (less known is the fact that he was a great Vedic scholar and historian). Now are all these savants anti-Dravidian?These historians should be lauded for the fantastic idea that even the bomb blasts in Mumbai have actually economic causes. Dawood Ibrahim has now become an instrument of progressive force of history as predicted by Marx rather than a womanising drug smuggling terrorist that he is. Here are some more propositions they can make for the cause of Indian secularism and world peace: Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lakshar-e-Toiba are the results of global recession and the economic cycles of capitalist system; Muhammed Atta is actually an unemployed alienated misguided youth; Sep-11 incident is actually an RSS-Zionist conspiracy; The Kashmiri Pandits actually did not flee the valley but just migrated like the Siberian birds and here the causes are those predicted by Marxist dialectics.
After all these are 'scholars' who act as apologists to even the atrocities of Stalin and the racist doctrine of Marx. Their ideology is one that can breed Lysenkos.

Yours truly,

S.Aravindan Neelakandan
